A very short rant on Islamic Polygamy

Things to consider before you read this:

• In Islam, a woman has no right to tell her husband not to be polygamous. If he has enough money and he wants to, he can. Under the condition that he treats them both/all equally.


• In Islam a woman does not have the right to ask her husband for a divorce if he takes another wife. This is considered a mistake.


• In Islam a man can take up to four wives and can have as many concubines as he wants.


• The only way a wife can get out of this is if she states in the marriage contract that he will only be with her for their whole marraige. But what muslim man wants to have these "rights" of his denied? No muslim man. A woman who thinks this way will be single for a long time.


• A muslim woman can only marry a muslim man

What about the first wife's opinion on polygamy? Does her husband not care about her feelings? If he wants a second wife just because he wants different vaginas and different pleasures, doesn't he care about the hurt his first wife will feel? Of course he doesn't care, he is a Muslim man and it is a male dominant religion, Why should he care? It all works out for him simply because he is a man.

-ignoring the fact that only 2% of Muslim marriages are polygamous.

-ignoring the fact that polygamy (and even 1st marriage itself) can be prohibited in Islam in some cases.
-ignoring the fact that polygamy can be an advantage to women sometimes because a woman can marry someone she loves even if he is married, a man can't marry a woman he loves if she is married.
- assuming that your future husband will definitely marry a 2nd one
- assuming that no man will ever agree on that condition with you can put in the marriage contract.
- assuming that you can't have a single word if your husband wants to marry a 2nd one.
- and finally posting this and letting a bunch of scumbags insult your religionand give their nonsense unwated opinions and bs about something they have no idea about.

Maybe you wanna consider leaving Islam just because this simple thing and let me see if you will ever find another religion that honors women the same why Islam does, or maybe you will move to a culture or a society where women are viewed as nothing more than sex object and their only value is measured by the size of their butts and boobs and where men cheat on their wives and God only knows how many women they slept with before, during and after marriage. I guess you will enjoy being in a society like that, Islam is too cool for you.

Polygamy is a very bad thing.

Polygamy might be a handy tool in a society full of widows and orphans. However, in a settled civilization, it leads to hordes of young single men who cannot settle down, and cannot find wives because the affluent older patriarchs in the society hoard them. The history of Islam has been one continuous story of rebel groups off in the desert and deciding that the religion being practiced by the authorities and their harems back in the cities is not the “true Islam.” They come crashing back upon the palaces, overthrowing the leaders (no Ottoman Sultan ever died of natural causes) and establishing a new regime that is just like the old one, where powerful are allowed to take multiple wives.

The Prophet Muhammad had a novel solution to this problem. Go and conquer neighboring societies and requisition their women. If you die in the process, the reward will be even greater – 72 virgins waiting for you in heaven! “Jihad” has been a clever and effective way of redirecting the hostilities of the “bachelor herd” that polygamy inevitably produces.

The Quran clearly States (not Muslim can argue here, it's in the book) that a man has the right to beat his wife is she does not obey. It says the man can kick her out just if she doesn't obey.

i personally can't stand the sight of seeing Muslim families, how the men are comfortable in the hot summer day but the women are not because they have been influenced since day one and now only feel comfortable being covered.

One had a Bedouin sheik tell me that the most important part was to make sure that you had at least three wives. If you had two, then they would conspire against you and make your life miserable, but with at least three, there would always be someone for the other two to conspire against.

Most of the guys I worked with in Iraq had multiple wives, the biggest reason being that the older wives would get shunted off to cooking/ managing the household while the younger ones would be for sex.

I don't know, I read that you can say in a marriage contract that you don't want him to have a second wife.

You can ask for a divorce if he breaks the contract.

Honestly, i. never knew how this stuff could work. Modern marriages fail all the time and thats just between two people. How are guys suppossed to make all those girls happy lol. The us should give out lota of visas to muslim women, im sure they like the idea of everyone being equal and not having the men as your rulers. My level of annoyance has peeked an all time high with this stupid post. Please don't try educating people with a religion you don't believe in. I'm a muslim women and I am PRETTY sure you can have this discussion (having more than one wife) before you marry your spouse. If a women is not comfortable with this she has the CHOICE and FREEDOM to not accept the marriage proposal. You are not FORCED to take part in a marriage that you are not comfortable in or not happy about. In Islam it is considered a sin for a muslim women to marry a non-muslim man. If the women is not concerned with this rule, she can go ahead and marry a non muslim man. God has given everyone FREEDOM and CHOICES but it's up to that person to live with consequences and guilt. If you are a practicing muslim you try to avoid making sin but we are all human. That's why you repent for your sins.

1) Muslim woman don't have the duty to pay a single penny in the household, it's a man's responsibility to pay for all the supplies and his family's needs. Women have the right to use her money for whatever she wants.
2) The doors of Heaven lye under the Mother’s feet.
3) When she gets married, a woman completes half of the Deen (faith) of her Husband.
4) When she’s a daughter she protects her parents from the fire of Hell.
5) We had the right to divorce way before Europeans women
6) We had the right to inherit way before European women
7) We had the right to get an education way before European women (The first still working university was made by a Muslim woman).
8) We have the right to use temporary contraception.

Many of those points you make are comparing Islamic society with historic western society, not modern day society as you'd mentioned. Others are religious points and not what I'd consider rights. Point one is the only one which really fits with your claim, but a married western women isn't legally obliged to work (and husband certainly can't force her) and she has full right to use his money. @daniaMQ I'm not against Islam, I'm against almost all religions... I think all religions have some misogynistic elements to them. I know many muslims do not believe in such superstitions, but I know about the Islamic texts a little bit from Muslim friends, where even hitting women has been justified, what Muslims choose to do and follow in reality is a different matter :) for e. g. I know some women are forced to wear veil and not pursue education in conservative muslim households, it doesn't mean all muslim households are like that

@daniaMQ my point was, that there is a difference between what is written in texts and what people actually follow... and following a text so strictly can only lead to fanaticism, probably why in most Islamic states there is no democracy, only Iran can be considered as somewhat democratic, that doesn't mean that I will consider all Muslims to be against free speech and expression :)
