Things I'm Happy To Believe in As a Teenager

1. "The One"

I believe every girl will find her prince charming one day.

I know it's probably not true in most cases, but I don't care because I love the fact everyone will find someone who will look at them the way no one else does; someone who looks at them as an angel and takes a moment to appreciate them in that way.

2. Destiny

I believe everything happens for a reason — that every person we meet is meant to cross paths with ours. These beliefs teach me that sometimes I win and sometimes I learn, but I never lose.

3. Music Cures Everything

Sometimes life's hard, even for us teenagers. Everything is complicated at this age. For me, one of the best ways to feel good again is listening to the music I love. That's cute when I think about it, how the arrangement of sounds makes everything look different. And still, I'm happy it does.

4. True Love

I believe true love exists. A pure true love that most times you can find only in fairy tales. Sometimes it exists in real life too, but I believe in fairy tales as much as I believe in real life, so it doesn't really matter.

5. Anything Is Possible

I'm young, and I don't know much since I haven't experienced much yet, but I do believe anything is possible. If I want to touch the moon, I will; if I want to fly, I will; and if I want to live a happy life, I will.

It all depends on my will. This is how it all begins. It's how our world changes every single day.

I'm happy I'm a believer. A really naive one, but still a believer.

You should try it too.

I'm the cautious optimist. Here's how I go about it:

Sometimes, your diamond will be buried under a mountain of garbage, and the only way to find is to dig. A precious treasure, tossed out by the fool that preceded you. That fool's loss will be your gain. Remember that.

Don't demand your diamond come from the mall and nowhere else. Malls are full of scam artists, looking to take advantage of you. What you're destined for, none of them deserve to even look at, much less tamper with.

Beware of anyone who seems too easy. They're probably just using you. Sometimes, the dude or damsel in distress, put themselves there; and the worst thing you can do is rescue them. Learn to know when a rescue is appropriate, so you are rewarded rather than taken advantage of.

True love may be out there, but let it reveal itself to you. Don't place too much faith in your own agenda, for your heart may deceive you. And con artists are masters at making your heart believe a lie. Music can help, but beware of earworms that drive you mad and have harmful effects. Music is like medicine: the wrong prescription will hurt you rather than help.

You are meant to have your encounters for a reason, but don't assume you can know ahead of time what the reason may be.

Life is this paradox: without intimacy, it isn't really living. Without vulnerability, intimacy is near-impossible. But without defenses, intimacy is also easily betrayed. So be mindful before you let your guard down.

I have yet to make my dreams come true, and live with many regrets. But if I can protect the young like you, the Disney-Princess-at-Heart, from the evils I failed to overcome when it was my turn to be the Disney Prince; if I can show you how not to give those evil things their power at least, then that is a small consolation.

It's a wisdom forged in pain, with few allies outside family, learning to cope amidst constant betrayal. It's also why I seldom leap with confidence into any particular relationship. Rushing anything, even with caution, can still blow up in your face. And another danger of youth, is that everything seems worse than it really is. If you've not yet listened to "Miss Atomic Bomb" by The Killers, do so. I feel like the old man in the music video.

However as someone that as lived through most of her twenties,
I have to say it is naïve.
In years from now you will come to learn this.
If you save this take, and fast forward ten ,
try to rewrite a response to it and you'll see how much more mature your views on those very same topics sound.

What I observed
1) The one : it's how much faith you put in each other in a relationship.
2) Destiny : It exists, but most or us are not satisfied by it, cause we all want one position, but only one gets it.
3) Music - New version to drugs and addiction, but keeps you alive and I love this drug.
4) True love - Biggest Marketing stunt! Nothing better then this, cause this what ultimately everyone wants.
5) Anything is possible : It you know how to use others and a step over their shoulders, crush them to achieve what you want.

1: The many considering how much people are on Earth and how they manage to find people they love, therefore it's way more likely that you have more than one person on Earth that you can love romantically.

2: Due to the randomness of quantum physics the Universe itself might not already be determined, and to think that destiny is arranged in a way where it mainly focuses on humans is a rather hubristic assumption anyway.

3: Music does not cure everything, although it does help some people cope and give them peace of mind.

4: Just call it love. It would be redundant to call cars true cars, or beds true beds, so why use it in this case?

5: Is it possible to make a square circle? I think it's better to say that lots of things are possible, and that we can try to figure out what they are and achieve them.

I don't think it's naive to believe in love or true love. I've experienced love twice and it was very different both times, the ups and the downs. It's only naive if you think there won't be ups and downs in any relationship.

I'll tell you what I tell my teenage students. It's ok to believe those things. Just don't cling to these ideas to the point where you are blind to discovering other forms of happiness and joy in life. Life not always turn out to be what we first expect (sometimes it does), but it doesn't mean we can't be fulfilled otherwise.

yeah the whole destiny thing, anything is possible, and things happen for a reason, kinda didn't work out for me. my family moved cities in the summer just before grade 7 and it nearly destroyed my life. because i moved into a higher pay are then where i was from, the kids were more apathetic, nearly everyone had a phone at that time (it was asked in class once) they were all kind of assholes. and i am that one weird ass kid in the class, always have been always will be; so i was pretty outed. i've had several short friendships from then till now, nothing that lasted and seeing my childhood friends is a special kind of torture because it's a reminder of what i lost. not having killed myself by now is an accomplishment for me. i still have social anxiety and trust issues, and i still fight with depression. do i think true love is possible in many different forms (i love my dog to no end she makes my life worthwhile)

wow, that's rough- but anything can be fixed. I've used to have depression like two years ago, but I slowly fixed it (I'm only 16) and I haven't been through what you've been though so I can't judge this situation at all, but if need any help, unload feelings or you just want to talk to someone for any reason, I'm always here for you.
I don't know which will make you easier to talk about personal things (I guess) but it doesn't matter because even if I did know you, I'd still won't judge. I never judge. Also I'm not trying to be nice or anything, I really mean it. I would love to talk to you. I wish I've had someone to talk to when I had depression, so it might help you somehow.

Anyway, although we have different perspectives from different reasons, I respect yours and you in general, and thank you for replying. :)
