I decided to share with you guys the little bio of people who inspire me so you'd get motivated in life too ^^
Today I am gonna talk about Dr. Jamil Zgheib. This is a touchy topic because I know the man personaly, since he was my ex pediatrician :(
Dr. Jamil Zgheib made himself from ground 0, with no real support. He was always driven and active. He loved nature and works on his garden, loved to travel a lot etc..
A giving person, he was always intuitive and observant. I remember my mum used to come with sunglasses on, and he used to tell her to take them off. Like what are you hiding behind those shades...
When you are in your safe little bubble, it never comes to your mind that anthng bad would happen to you. Especially when you are on top of the world, at the peak of your career...
So basically in his late forties in 2008, Dr. Jamil got diagnosed with ALS which is a disease that slowly paralyses you completely. It s such an ugly disease cause there is no cure and it eats you out slowly and there is nthng you can do. Jamil continued working until he completely lost capability of using his hands. I remember going to get vaccinated and he couldn t manage to use his hands properly and calls his secretary for help.
Of course any person in his place would go through depression, close himself down, hate god, hate the world etc...
Now I am not saying he didn't but difference here is he accepted and raised above it. When life throws you backwards, you don t throw yourself backwards even more.
After passing through that phase Jamil found the inner strength to fight and influence people.
Although he is totally paralysed and can only use his eyes, using Tobbi’s Eye Tracker he managed to publish around 9 books! yup you heard me ^^ using his eyes xD
Also, the man did a movie about himself called Jamil,a flying soul.
The money he raises, he puts them in an organization for people with ALS that he founded.
He gives lectures on Skype for universities and always gives consulations for people in need.
Amazing right? you see people with so little capacities doing wonderful deeds, always wanting to give and reach out to people when others have everything going for them yet they offer nothing.
Now about the giving part,Jamil also gives a lot of emotional support. I mean I visited him and others do frequently and we all leave his place serene and fullfilled because he gives away so much love that you can't leave his place feeling better than before.
and here I am gonna show you the trailer of his movie. Although it is in arabic just so you d get an idea of it.
I am gonna brief you in a bit about what s said in the trailer.
Basically the woman is saying: you, who watches movies about heroes with made up stories, don t you know that there are even greater heroes living among you.
Then they started talking about their previous life and how happy they were. The wife was stating the reasons she married him. Based on his morals and values. Then she said, there comes a time when you can t live them and here is the heartbreak.
Then the 1st man basically stated how ugly this disease is and the 2nd applauded Jamil for staying in Lebanon isntead of getting better treatment abroad. So people here can benefit of his own experience.
3 phrases that I like from the rest of the video are:
"he took the word stubborn and put it on a higher level"
"you can stop a man walking and running, but a man with his ideas spread everywhere...you can t stop him."
"there is a hero in each of us but they need someone to write their stories"
So yea...I hope you liked the take and felt inspired :)
For all you people who are passing through a low point in your life remember that you are not alone in this and that you can fix it to reach a better place.
Finally one last word of advice: Jamil also told my mum and I, "you live your whole life trying to gather as much money you can to spend in the end on your health...for what..."
He said he wished he lived more and spent more time with his wife and kids instead of working all the time.
So peeps, always sort out yourr priorities in life... :)
