But nowadays that word has a negative connotation.
Why do you think that is?

Trending & News Because morality is so subjective and ultimately up to each person anyway, that someone claiming to be a "moralist" just seems pretentious for thinking they have found the ultimate ideal for morality. We all have morality, but it's based on personal experience and what we consider for each situation...not some supposedly objective standard of morality.
Morality might be concrete to follow in a group of people who are very similar in everything they do, but in society this just isn't the case. When we all have our own versions of morality, what's so special about someone who defines themselves as someone who consciously thinks about morality?
Well yeah, there are something's considered good and bad that can't be observed in nature, so bi experiments and no observations etc. but religious people have faith that such things are bad because their religions say so. They also have various philosophy's to try to explain what they believe.
Notice how I never once mentioned religion ;)
I think it's about time society ditches this notion that religions define morality, when this simply isn't the case. Children learn proper ways to act (or at least think) in certain situations long before they give a shit about religion.
Why are people still stuck on this idea that religious people get their morality from their religion? It comes from our parents, environment, and upbringing...just the same as everyone else (religious or not).
Morality has no meaning anymore.
Morality used to mean essentially following the word of God, even if you didn't acknowledge that you were doing so. The ten commandments basically laid out morality for humanity, now whether you practice a religion or not, it's hard to argue with those guidelines.
But you don't think it should be legal to murder someone you hate?
I would say maybe it's a side effect of what Marx called Alienation. As Capitalism advances, we become more and more alienated from our humanity. Even on an ideological level, I think that's true - it's gonna take very few morals to be able to look at what Capitalism does and to not immediately become a revolutionary :P
So, when you challenge any part of Capitalist production, when you leap to grasp that raw, un-alienated human part of yourself, everyone will freak out, & be like, 'no! no! uhh... you're a... uh... fucking moralist! Yeah, moralist! Get out of here!' etc lmao.
That's not the republican establishment that's the tea party
Lol so funny

Bing a moralist is considered a bad thing by evil progressive people!! it's always good to have good morals and a good conscience, that is what helps the world prosper
There are all kinds of satanists who believe morals are a waste of time. but religious people are wise enough to know that with out morals, the world will tear itself apart by inward fighting and deep mistrust. the villains will rule the population because they can and love will grow cold world wide, mayby you should try explaining this one to who ever says morals are stupid and see what thier reaction will be
Ithas a negative connotation nowadays because people equate morality with. Not Liking homosexuals for instance, this is considered to be a subjective morality, and if it is an objective morality it is beyond the realm of human understanding, which has more to do with the divine, what we can be sure of is objective morality, The Nazis who worked in the death camps like Treblinka had none of this or very little according to majority view, with out objective morality what we can know id good and bad for people, The world will become hellish
Because most people are aware of the fact that not everyone is going to share the same morals, so trying to impose your morality on others for the sake of judging them, is fucking dick move.
All humanity has some of the same basic moral tendencies
Then why do you need to tell other people, if they already share them?
