Do you consider yourself to be a moral person?

Morality is a subject that triggers some people, I presume because they are susceptible to being called immoral. For me, morality is built upon some assumptions about fundamental values and behaviors which define "right" and "wrong." It was taught to me by my elders when I was a young boy and it hasn't changed as I've gotten older. I do not have the privilege of adapting morality so that it is convenient for my life, and morality may be quite inconvenient at times. And in a system of morals, as I understand morals, the answer to the question is almost never "it depends."

Most religions have an inherent code of morality, though not all religious people either accept or follow the code. And a person need not have a religion to be a moral person. Some religious adherents apply the code in a way that defies the teachings of the religion (e. g., the Westboro Baptist Church protests at military funerals) and those who are not religious use those examples to criticize all religions. But there are many religious people who attempt to follow a moral code. . . and some of them are slammed for their behavior.

Yes, simply believing in a moral code might place you at odds with those around you, and actually following that code increases the odds. It's not easy. I try to be a moral person, and my dedication to that ideal has increased as I have gotten older. However, I do not claim to follow my moral code without fail, but I do try to learn from my mistakes and not repeat them. I don't do it because it is easy. I do it because I think it is the right thing to do.

I have a strong moral compass. But it's not dictated by religion, law, or society.
I know what's right and wrong.
I try not to harm others or nature. I feel awe, reverence and gratitude toward creation.
I try to make people's lives better by being helpful, courteous and charitable, unless they are rude or mean.
At the same time, I oppose those who make things worse for others and who cause harm.
I don't lie, cheat or steal.

I believe I am moral and very committed and strong in that belief.

But honestly the more I date the more those values are being challenged... I mean the shit these ladies try to pull, and the level of manipulation and games they play. It really challenges your beliefs. Like it's pretty bad out here.

Really morals is a very easy one dimension subject, but men throughout time and specially in european societies have just brainwashed us with lies and crap. To begin with, religion is an 18th century secular and legal concept, it was decided by men across a table along with the concept of the nation state at the Treaty of Westphalia in the 1700's and came into vogue a hundred years later. However, when I tell you the truth you look at me like I am mad, but that is the truth. So RELIGION , has absolutely nothing to do with morals, though they do falsely try and give you that impression.

So then what is morals? First there is wisdom, and VIRTUE IS WISDOM. Simply what is virtuous,,,,, is moral. So what is that? ANYTHING THAT IS EFFICIENT, SMART WISE, ETC. is moral. Anything thing that is stupid, dumb, inefficient , is immoral. Now there may be many things that on face value may seem smart, like why stop at a stop sign, usually there is no car. When you see this situation deeper, you will see why it's just not worth it to shoot through the stop sign. Simply the cost is too great.

Now morals is just like that. The most shortest route from point a to point b , is the straight line, any other curly way is longer. That is morals, and that's why virtue is wisdom. BY PURE REASON AND MATH, THE ULTIMATELY SMART PERSON, WOULD BE THE ULTIMATELY MORAL PERSON. Jesus, was such a person, he is sinless just as much because he was wisest, got it. We act immorally as much because we are not smart enough to choose wisely in that situation. We get fooled thinking we can just shoot through the stop sign. And thus, sooner rather than later it blows up in our face. Every kid knows the 10 commandments, but to apply them in real life situations takes an intelligence that is beyond most human's capacity. NOW DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHY VIRTUE IS WISDOM? These are all very simple things, but their application is life, which is to say, " the fog of war ",,,, becomes a truly superhuman task. But what is moral is very, very easy... it is application that is the BITCH !!!

I'd like to say I'm pretty moral but I don't really believe that no more about 5 years ago I broke one of the promises I told myself. I knowingly accepted a married man's advances and that's pretty much shattered my belief in my own code. I've also stolen things before from big shops some times at desperate measures others not (not that I do it often maybe 1/2 a year for a single item). I always held onto never disclosing personal data from work so no names ever gets mentioned. So I used to say I had a pretty strong moral compass, just not so much anymore.

I have extremely high morals and I've never broken my own morals. I've evan been beaten up for it in the past when standing up against bullies. So yes I have morals. And human value.:)

Ofcorse I've done bad things too but never broken my own morals.

well yes. because all "moral" means is: having a concept of what's right and wrong. and i would say it's extremely rare for someone not to have that. in fact you probably couldn't even live if you had not.

The problem lies when defining morals. People have fought and died defending opposing morals with both sides claiming moral high ground. I have my own moral code just like most. And just like most, we won't see eye to eye in regards to some issues of morality.

In my profession, moral and ethical behavior is mandatory. There are severe penalties for not behaving morallly and ethically. I believe strongly in this and I would even without the possibility of penalties.

No one is objectively moral, only subjectively moral.  However, the caveat are the prophets of God. They were objectively moral as they spoke for God and laid the laws as a result.
