When someone says you have really big balls (I'm not a guy) should that be taken as a compliment?

I guess when someone says it in your context (regardless of gender) it's referring to having courage, it's sort of the same as saying you have guts. So I guess it's a compliment.

It depends on context. One context it can mean a guy is brave, while another could mean the guy is extremely rude or stupid to have actually said what he said.

In my native language, it means you have guts, you are courageous, ... So in that case a compliment.

It was in an instance when I put my opinion out clear and i might have been to straightforward for their taste.

@Asker in that case I think it's meant as a compliment, or perhaps just an observation (saying you're courageous/brave/fearless it'd generally be considered a compliment but it could just be an observation). I doubt it would be an insult in the context you're describing.
