what is it?
what do you do?
Not only been to one - had one! We are from the UK but love Italy so we were married in Rome with a very small number of guests, and had an Italian themed party when we returned to the UK.
We had a 'renewal of vows' first at our local Town Hall in the early afternoon, which added a bit of ceremony to the occasion, then had a meal and dancing from late afternoon into the evening. Here are some of the things we did :
* Looked at wedding traditions from ancient Rome which are the basis for most Italian wedding traditions. Have a look at link for more information.
* Had Italian tunes played at the 'ceremony' by a small band (violin, keyboard and saxophone - we heard them playing in the street in our town and just asked if they'd be prepared to do it - and they were great!) who also played at the meal. Our favourite was 'That's Amore' which everyone sang along to in the Town Hall and then danced to at the meal - it was magic!
* Walked from the Town Hall to the restaurant (it wasn't far!) - Italians often walk to the ceremony - and we had so many people clapping and cheering us on the way. It made the whole thing a huge celebration.
* Went to a local Italian restaurant for the meal after the ceremony - they did us a really good deal and the place was already decorated in an Italian way so that saved on cost. Things like serviettes were already in Italian flag colours (red, green and white) and all the staff were Italian.
* Because we got to know the staff beforehand (good excuse for going there for a few meals!), they loved the day and went out of their way to provide the Italian theme. The chefs came out and sang some Italian songs for the guests after the meal!
* Served Prosecco (Italian sparkling wine) as a toast instead of champagne - much cheaper and it continued the Italian theme).
* Found some small bottles of Italian wine to give as wedding favours at our local supermarket. Again this saved massively on cost. We made our own labels thanking people who came to the day and tied them to the bottles with raffia which made it look very rustic.
* For people who didn't drink, and for kids, we got some small boxes of Italian chocolates (found them on the Internet) as favours.
* We had photos from our Rome wedding which we made into a presentation and projected onto the wall during the meal. We added in some general photos of Rome and of other parts of Italy which again made the theme even more Italian.
The possibilities are endless. I really hope this helps you and if you do go with an Italian theme, I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
First off, I have to laugh a little because I am Italian and I have not heard of a Italian wedding themed party...lol however here is my answer and maybe it will help you out.
Tuscany, a hilly region near the middle of Italy, is renowned for its red wines, magnificent scenery, and simply sophisticated cuisine ... not to mention the medieval charm of its walled towns, castles and fortresses.
Then, there are the olive groves, vineyards and rambling farmhouses. And let's not forget the If you or your fiancé have Italian ties, a Tuscan theme wedding is a great way to celebrate them. And even if you don't, the Tuscan or Italian country theme is a great way to make the most of any outdoor setting.
The cornerstone of the Tuscan theme is simple elegance. Often, this theme shows up in vineyards, country clubs, and manicured gardens. It's also a good choice for Italian-theme banquet rooms or restaurants (especially those with arches, columns or warmly-colored stucco).
Music is indispensable to any Italian wedding. But a vineyard wedding calls for intimacy: a classical guitarist or a string quartet, say. Alternately, a small operatic choir will have your guests leaping from their seats (and searching for tissues). As the night goes on, an traditional Italian band will get your guests stamping to the strains of the Tarantella.
The elegant country theme has universal appeal, whether it's the rustic sophistication of Provence or the old-world simplicity of Tuscany. If you're lucky enough to have some Italian in your background or a beautiful vineyard nearby, the Tuscan theme is a great way to celebrate close to the heart.
I am not sure if this was the answer you were looking for but it was all I could think of.
Cheers
