If you were the president, what laws would you pass and what laws would you abolish?

Model our educational system on finlands (I hear they have the best) where it is adaptive and tailored to fit the need of the individual instead of this idea where you can be great at everything but fail one class and your not allowed to graduate crap. Stop the war on drugs since it has done absolutely nothing but harm us and create a system that treats drug addicts like they are, people with problems that need help. Create a prison system that is tiered. That is each tier is increasingly severe compared to the crime, not in violence towards the inmate but rather in lack of privledge, this way you can use counseling with positive reinforcment to help get these criminals back to being funcitonal members to society (ie you refuse to see a physciatrist, you lose out door privledge, tv, etc) Eventually at the top tier it would ideally be a prison/town where they would have substantial freedom with minimal restrictions to have them slowly aclimate back into society. They would also have programs to get them jobs while at the final stages of there rehabilitation that way when they leave they will already have a job reducing the probability of going back to crime (most criminals are so because of life experiences not because they are inherently bad) Also abolish the laws that force criminals to admit there crimes to employers (generally preventing them from getting a job and causing them to go back to crime) the point of prison was punishment and rehabilitation so they have already paid for there crime and should not be forced to pay once they are out as well. I would abolish the federal reserve and have america go back to printing and making its own money (many past presidents have tried to prevent the creation of private banks to prevent the economics issues we are now facing, andrew jackson and JFK come to mind) I would have schools teach mandatory classes on banking and morgages so that when it comes time to enter the real world people would have actual knowledge of how it works. I would also require a martial arts of some kind to be taught in school PE classes, this would help instill a sense of self control and determinism in the students, making them feel like they could and should defend themselves (with only the force requried to do so) which would help reduce bulling and create a much more confidnet society who is more inclined to stand up for itself then to ask for the rest of society to do it for them. Reduce taxes, remove sexist laws etc, no fault divorce.

3. Build a multi-modal, sufficiently-maintained transportation network
4. End the drug war and private prisons
5. Cameras on all cops
6. Reduce police and prosecutorial discretion in criminal matters
7. Publicly-funded campaigns so politicians have to listen to the people that elected
them.
8. Fix marriage laws so men actually want to get married again

Well first off, I wouldn't pass or abolish any laws because that's not what the president does. That's the legislative branch. However, in terms of what is encourage to be done, I can think of a few things. Though note that this is only going off things I would want done, as not all of these are even necessarily within the power of the federal government. First off, if I could find a way to reverse the Hobby Lobby and Citizens United decisions, I'd do that. I'd try to put in more voting rights laws, anti-gun laws, anti-gerrymandering laws, anti-discrimination laws, laws enforcing secularism, pro-choice and pro-accessible birth control laws, environmental protection laws, laws supporting the education system, privacy laws and probably a whole lot more. Also I'd do my best to eliminate things like for profit prisons as well as just trying to fix the prison system in general, and if possible try and get our election system changed so it's not absolute crap. Also just stuff like higher taxes for the rich and for corporations would be nice. and there's probably stuff I'm forgetting, but hey.

Not as such. The president can draft a law, yes, but it has to be introduced to congress by a congressman, and congress has to pass it, at which point the president has veto power. So it's really not the president who passes laws, it's primarily congress. That's why it's called the legislative branch, because it makes the laws.

No problem. Really a surprising amount of people don't know how the government actually works, so it's not that unusual to be confused about it. And honestly, the president kind of is portrayed as the most powerful branch of the government and as having control over everything, even though congress was actually intended to be the most powerful branch.
