Calling the toilet a John is a reference to Sir John Harington, the inventor the first flush toilet used in England.

I think the person who create the toilet name was john. I also believe one of the guys in The Game of Thrones is his great grandson, I saw that somewhere but can't remember right now.

Sir John Harington is credited with inventing the flush toilet. Thomas Crapper designed and manufactured the first widely used toilet design.
