Why do some people switch their instagram account from public to private repeatedly?

For example someone would have their account private for some time period then switch it to public for another time period then back again to private.I just don't get why someone would do that. Why keep switching when you can just keep your account private throughout?

Because hashtags do not work when your account is private, so they switch it to public when they want to get more likes and views and then they switch it back after they have reached their peak. Makes perfect sense actually.

im guilty of this I don't know sometimes just dont care and then i remember people i don't want looking at pics can look at my pics and people i follow so i put it on private. but rn i kind wanna take it off private bc it gives your ig more of a chance to grow and reconnect with people

Their head might say "keep it private" but their heart says "I want people to see my pictures". It can be conflicting.

Maybe someone is paying them for pictures during that time? I don't know enough about instagram to know or care, for some reason though, I had a mental image of people switching to invisible en masse to DM and share feet pics and nudes between themselves, delete them, then switch out of Sunday instagram mode.

I used to do it when I posted as a teenager and used hashtags to get as many followers and likes as possible. Then I would change it back to private when lots of weirdos commented and followed me 🤣

May be they are trying to entice a specific person who they know can see their public profile to follow them? But public probably isn't forcing this person to openly follow them while they still get to see their content (no incentive to follow).

Perhaps the hope is that going private takes the privilege away and (potentially) makes them want to see their pictures enough to follow them. Almost like they're trying to test this target person whether or not they like them enough.

Instagram can be a nightmare if you become popular. I had just over 75,000 followers and the constant work made me quit.
