Because they are brainwashed, and have low level of education, so they don't know how to cite. @BlueBearyTeddy is a good example
It's obvious that there is a verse between 4/74 and 4/76, but they always omit it, the verse 75 that explain the cause of war.
"And why should ye not fight in the cause of Allah and of those who being weak are ill-treated (and oppressed)? Men women and children whose cry is: "Our Lord! rescue us from this town whose people are oppressors; and raise for us from Thee one who will protect; and raise for us from Thee one who will help!" 4/75

Also Quran (4:89) and Quran (4:95), even a child at elementary school knows that there are verses between 89 and 95, but why the ignorant people omit them, see why

"Except those who join a group between whom and you there is a treaty (of peace) or those who approach you with hearts restraining them from fighting you as well as fighting their own people. If Allah had pleased He could have given them power over you and they would have fought you: therefore if they withdraw from you but fight you not and (instead) send you (guarantees of) peace then Allah hath opened no way for you (to war against them).4/90

The same goes for Quran chapter 8.
"They are those with whom thou didst make a covenant but they break their covenant every time and they have not the fear (of Allah)8/56

"And if they incline to peace, then incline to it [also] and rely upon Allah. Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, the Knowing" Qur'an 8:61

The problem isn't whether Quran promotes violence or no, the problem is the education level of the person we are debating with, do they know how to cite and count?

Doesn't matter if or if not the majority think that. The fact is you muslims aren't joining the fight against terrorist groups. Muslims leaders aren't even denouncing them publicly, but instead joining speeches with extremists and viewing "extremists" aka terrorist as a secular muslim group. All muslims are terrorists.

Sumni (or sunni) muslims believe homosexuals must be punished and they are killed (thrown from roofs, shot) on middle eastern countries by muslims... that is just one example and that makes them terrorist the same way isis are. You are all terrorists

The majority of americans dont think muslims are terrorists.

The majority of Americans recognize that that most terrorist attacks are carried out by Muslims. This isn't a guess its a fact. In 2015, of 167 bombings carried out around the world, only three were carried out by non Muslims.

Most Americans recognize that Muslims are not the only people that carry out terrorist attacks.

Most Americans count peaceful Muslims among their friends and neighbors and community members.

What you will find is that if you came to America and treat people kindly, most people will treat you the same in return.

However, if you come to America and you immediately assume that the majority of people think you are a terrorist, most people will recognize your ignorance and will as a result treat you according to the way you behave.

Actually, depending on what you consider to be "attacks" (so, not just bombings, I guess) it's not a fact. I read several articles mentioning some statistics showing the opposite (the majority weren't made by Muslims). However, I'd need to find the study again to explain in details.
One thing to consider as well is that USA were often threatened by Muslim terrorists and extremists, as it kinda represents a western way of life they reject, and because of the foreign policy of USA, that many extremists (but not only) disagree with. USA have been threatened a lot by Ben Laden in the past, and suffered from one of the biggest terrorist attacks of history.
So tensions seem inevitable. However, as long as people can do the distinction between extremists and peaceful people, tensions should decrease. I'm afraid that the last presidential campaign didn't go in this sense though, and that one candidate especially pointed at Muslims in order to make electors believe they were a big problem.

Also, one can argue that the Qu'an has violent verses, or that some hadiths appeal to murder, etc. but the Bible is somehow violent too (the old Testament being the most barbaric to me). And it doesn't mean that Muslim people are violent.

Most of the ones who study the Qu'an say that these verse were revealed in a war context, and that they only apply during war, for self defence (some think that they don't apply today anyway). Of course, some disagree and interpret them differently (ISIS, for ex), but the majority don't want to kill all the kuffar or whatever anti-Muslim people say (otherwise the world would be in permanent war, considering the high number of Muslims).
It's important to look at how people actually live and think, rather than taking some verses and imagine things.

Although I often criticize (all) religions, their history and the horrible things made in their names, I don't extend this criticism to the people, who are like anyone else (most are good, some are bad).

@Logos the statistics I'm sure you are referring to were published by huff post and dated from 1980 to 2015.

Using current data given demographic, technological and ideological shifts is the most relevant data to the current situation.

According the the University of Maryland, 11072 terrorist attacks occurred in 2016. Causing 25,600 deaths and carried out by 6700 perpetrators. 85% of that 6700 were Muslims with the most active terrorist entity being the Islamic state. Its not some propaganda effort going on that terrorist attacks are mostly reported as Muslims because they are actually mostly Muslims. Also, the vast majority of those 85% are Muslims carrying out attacks against other Muslims. Its not a Christian or western vs Muslims thing. Its terrorist against good people thing. The majority of Americans recognize most Muslims are not terrorists.

Thank you for the precise data.
Yes I agree with your conclusions.
Unfortunately, some people with bad intentions try to make other people believe that it is a Westerners vs Muslim thing (from both "sides"), the people who want such a clash and conflict to happen.
I imagine that most Americans are not brainwashed and are aware that most Muslims are not terrorists.

There are many muslims in America that are genuinely good people, and a, Eric and know that. But when we see a terrorist attack on the news, about 9/10 it is committed by person from the Muslim religion. That's why so many Americans are afraid and believe that "all muslims are terrorists"

Not all muslims are terrorists, but the majority of terrorist attacks are committed by terrorists. And it makes sense. I mean, for fucks sake, the Quran literally incourages those terrorist attacks. Islam is not a religion of peace.

Quran doesn't directly incourage terrorism, but it incourages violence on "non-believers". No, I am not out of my mind. You want quotes? Here you go.

Quran (3:56) - "As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help."

Quran (3:151) - "Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no authority".

Quran (4:74) - "Let those fight in the way of Allah who sell the life of this world for the other. Whoso fighteth in the way of Allah, be he slain or be he victorious, on him We shall bestow a vast reward."

Quran (4:76) - "Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah…"

Quran (4:89) - "They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they): But take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (From what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their ranks."

Quran (4:95) - "Not equal are those of the believers who sit (at home), except those who are disabled (by injury or are blind or lame, etc.), and those who strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah has preferred in grades those who strive hard and fight with their wealth and their lives above those who sit (at home). Unto each, Allah has promised good (Paradise), but Allah has preferred those who strive hard and fight, above those who sit (at home) by a huge reward "

Quran (5:33) - "The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement"

Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them"

Quran (8:15) - "O ye who believe! When ye meet those who disbelieve in battle, turn not your backs to them. (16) Whoso on that day turneth his back to them, unless maneuvering for battle or intent to join a company, he truly hath incurred wrath from Allah, and his habitation will be hell, a hapless journey's end."

Don't worry, I understand that these verses have their own context, but the point I'm trying to make is that the fact that Quran has such violent verses and the fact that the majority of terrorist attacks are committed by muslims can't simply be a coincidence. At least I don't think so.

Also thank you, I will educate myself more on the topic. :)

This is a popular stereotype that the American media continues. It is easier to believe a rumour than actually try to get to know a person as an individual.

If a person decides they know everything about a person before they even meet them, changing their mind is very hard.

In general, most Americans are not Muslim, therefore Muslims are considered 'Outsiders'. Outsiders are people that one thinks of as 'They/Them' instead of 'We/Us'. Human beings in general, not just Americans, tend to think less of people that are believed to be different.

Finally, few Americans have done any actual study of Islam. In an increasingly secular society such as the U. S., holy scriptures of any kind are rarely read or studied. This makes lies about all religions easy to believe.

I wouldn't say the majority, but I would say that a lot of Americans think so first because of gulf wars, but especially because of 9/11, which was a traumatic event for them; and because very few Muslims live in USA, so it's a culture and religion they don't really know.
Plus the fact that some people or media may play on this fear and try to maintain it among people for political interests (it's always convenient for politicians to have an "enemy" and scapegoat to point at and make responsible of many issues).

    - Your religion calls for the killing of infidels
    - radicals use the quran to justify their actions
    - Moderate muslims don't condemn radical islam
    - Most if not all terrorist attacks since 9/11 have been carried out by muslims.

Instead of blaming Americans look at your own community.

    2. Enhancement of the media
    3. Certain strategies hold by the government

Additionally, there is no proof "majority" of Americans think alike your reference. Incidents just happening back to back; the noise is loud. The doubt and fear is within people. That's why get to appear tempered. Not everyone act judgmental like this.

    Good Luck.

Because so many are easily influenced to do bad

Islam is a gateway to possibly doing horrible things
Much like cannabis isn't bad on its own but can be if it becomes a gateway to heroin, for example

Islam threads a fine line between dangerous and peaceful. Unfourtunately so many use it for wrong and it works. Maybe if the religion was less absolute and more open like religions that believe in many gods. It would be harder to manipulate

All the terrorist attacks and 9-11. America has an excellent immigration policy that only takes the best and brightest Muslims from the middle East that are of great value to the US economy in contrast with over here in Europe where we take in Muslims with no education or skills and cram them into giant social housing estates in which they form another small country within our own with their own laws and taxes in which they become recruitment grounds for ISIS or at worst gang rapists.
