It’s not healthy, not positive, not good, not cool, not trendy. But fat shaming is a total shit.
Over-weight people should be respected but not view it as positive.
You should love yourself but still work on your body.

I think fat acceptance movement is completely stupid. I agree no one deserves to be made fun of because of there sex race size. Now that doesn’t mean being fat is healthy now I’m not perfect I’m probley about 10 pounds over wieght but not 50-100 that’s when type 2 diabetes starts heart problems arise and most of them don’t have insurance because they are high risk (one of the good things about Obamacare). But more the most part it’s an unhealthy life stile and say we take on the Japanese approach to fat men there arnt allow to have a waste bigger then 36 waste size and women have to be under 28 other wise there company is charged 1 million dollars a day have to pay for a personal trainer for there fat employees and have to pay for them to get counseling in order to find out why they feel the need to eat so much and help them have a mind set where they can be a healthy weight

I'm also tired of being labelled shallow, selfish and an asshole simply because I don't find this attractive and would never date someone like that. i’m an Asian girl and considered “skinny”. In all honesty, Asians have high metoblism (most) so chubby Asians is the same size as an average “skinny american” that kind of “chubby Asian girls” is acceptable because they are NOT overweight. They just have chubs. Th other kind is the : i am 5’2 and i weight 300 pounds. That is NOT healthy. I will NOT shame your body because fat shaming is horrible. Your self esteem will be damaged. The person is beautiful, yes. But it is unhealthy. So i will recommend them to lose weight, not because of their appearance. But because of their health.
I identify with radical feminism mostly and don't see radical feminists trying to force others to think that fat is beautiful or that "all bodies are beautiful". They just acknowledge the fact that women are more pressured to look good than men are and that people, especially women, who look good are generally more respected than the ones who don't. I got the feeling that that girl that posted that "it's time for us to appreciate chubby asians" is a teenage genderfluid liberal feminist that spends most of her time on Tumblr.
Also, non-fat may be more attractive than fat but I know that a lot of people feel attracted to people who are a little fat like the girls in the pictures posted by her. A lot. So it can't be that bad.
‘Body positivity’ means just acknowledging fat people exist and appreciating that there’s beauty in them too. Of course people (mostly on the internet) go to other extents but fat acceptance at its core is good. Of course people should lose weight to be healthier but that doesn’t mean they have to have no self esteem in the process or suffer fat shaming.
I believe that all people should be treated with the same amount of respect. I do not believe in fat shaming, but I do believe that it would be best for them to get more into shape I also understand that sometimes body types and genetics have a play in things, sometimes people tend to hold more fat than others. It's just how life is
This fat acceptance thing is pretty common these days. Can we all agree that some guy like it one way and some the other? And that being fat is simply not healthy? Being really skinny isn't either, but do we promote anorexia? We don't, and some girls are just skinny, some are anorexic. Some girls are just big, and some just can't spop shoving pizza into their face. No one should advocate the acceptance of any shape of body. How can you make me like something when i don't? I've had big girls and skinny girls, and there is just nothing more to say that their personality -in the end- is more valuable than their shape. The way they bitch about how other people should magically change their perception of beauty in the other hand is really unattractive
I think so long as your a healthy weight in regard to your body type, what's the issue? Some people are naturally larger than others and are equally as healthy. Assuming that all women should all conform to fit into one shape of body is absurd
But yeah, it should not be promoted. If you’re happy being big and have never let it stop you from getting everything you want in life, then just be happy quietly.
I think its stupid. You can't force people to perceive you how you want to be perceived. If people think your weight makes you unnattractive then either accept it or make an effort to lose weight.
In this world, one of those extremes is applauded (thinness) and the other is marginalized (thickness).
Extreme dieting is pervasive in east Asian culture, it’s everywhere. So if overweight women need some representation with this campaign, it’s good for their souls. To find that validation that they do exist and don’t have to lose 100 lbs to be fashionable or cool. This is good for their minds honestly, I think it’s a beautiful thing to spread acceptance. Why don’t you?
Because you are spreading acceptance, not healthy behaviours or thoughts. I don't agree with extreme dieting either, nor its orevelence in the media.
but to my mind the fat acceptance movement is doing as much harm to these girls as society's views on thin.
the only reason it seems right is because we can tell the fat people that they are still beautiful which makes us feel like nice people. and telling them they are unhealthy makes us feel bad because it hurts their feelings.
@chris1984 I sincerely doubt this campaign makes people want to stop self-improvement. Health is something that all sane humans seek. This is a campaign trying to erase social stigma of being fat in asia, not the health aspect.
i would agree with you except that people who are significantly overweight will likely already have issues with laziness, anticipatory anxiety and poor willpower.
these people are quite often literally waiting for an excuse to take the easy way out and just be "proud" of their "curvy body". so by giving that to them, you strip them of any impetus to return to good health, and give them all the tools to ignore medical advice as "discrimination" or "fat shaming".
@chris1984 With the kind of negative social conditioning to obesity and overweightness, that effect would only occur for people who are already set in their static mindset. But given how social this world is these days, I DOUBT that would be a significant enough number to warrant this campaign as an inherently negative one.
I envision it affects young insecure chubby girls the most, the ones who need the ego boost while the rest of the world scream at them to lose weight.
i would agree if there wasn't evidence of it affecting many people who seem rational right up until they talk about their weight. its becoming prevalent to use "fat pride" as an excuse to do nothing about being overweight as it "isn't a problem", they are "healthy at any size".
don't get me wrong, i think it comes from a good intention, its just killing people with kindness to my mind.
Unhealthiness is not OK but fat people should not be celebrated, not should they be persecuted.
