+1 yThey are not respected because their work involves cultural and religious taboos that are deeply rooted in a lot of the major religions. Part of the job is to preform sexual acts that are considered formication and (if they're married) adultery.
There are also unsafe sexual practices that potentially expose them to STI's.
Additionally, pornography is considered to be demeaning particularly to women because the majority of it's consumers are men.
The behavior if pornstars generally, and female pornstars specifically also goes against our biological inclinations, where women tend to be extremely selective about their sexual partners. Why? Because a sexual encounter that results in a pregnancy is far more costly for a woman than it is for a man. Female pornstars, and other sex workers are going against that flow.
There's also an appeal to emotion: Ask 100 people: "Would you be OK if your child decides to become a pornstar?" I would expect virtually all of them to give an emphatic "No!".
Personally, I give them the same basic respect that I give to all human beings, but I do not respect their choices. At the same time, I understand that some of them may have ended up in this situation due to extenuating circumstances, so I feel more sympathy towards them than anything else.70 Reply

+1 ythis is not my opinion but my feelings about why there is a disdain or people look down on pornstars.
i think for many sex is an expression of love or at least strong feelings between two people. i think many people feel that when a person effectively allows their body to be objectified (which undoubtedly what a porn star does) particularly in the often explicit ways porn stars do then it speaks to a lack of self-respect. i think that lack of self-respect and the rather explicit ways in which porn stars willfully objectify themselves causes some people to not respect them10 Reply
1.3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I'm neutral, I neither respect nor disrespect them just because they're porn stars. It's a career choice just like any other, and I don't inherently respect or disrespect some choices over others. It doesn't affect my life.
Regarding the stigma, I guess it's because most people still value only having sex in a relationship and not broadcasting those intimate moments for the world to see. So those who stigmatize it probably see it as a way of seeking attention or "doing gross things in front of others". There's quite a big stigma around sex in general, of it being dirty or shameful which of course affects the way people think about porn and porn stars.70 Reply

They make cheap and easy money for doing something most people (especially men) would love to get paid for. They know the risks going in, and shouldn't be lauded for selling themselves out like that. I am neutral to porn stars, as I don't watch porn, but they aren't heroes or anything. They're taking the easy way out in life and making sex look cheap and meaningless. If someone is willing to be a porn star, they should be confident enough to take the public ridicule they'll get for it, since they're getting paid large amounts of money to do something any attractive-enough adult could do. In other words, take the good with the bad, instead of being entitled about something that already has enough positives to it.

The world wants it, someone gives it to them. They will be fine even if little miss Reserved Rebecca down the street doesn’t agree with it.
41 Reply3.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. No, I don't respect them, not at all.
Having sex with other people for money is in no sense respectable.120 ReplyMainly because what they do is perverted and abhorrent, and it displays they do not respect themselves. Normal people may do similar things too, but if it isn't displayed in public, then no one has to know about it. It's demeaning to take sex, a display of intimacy and affection, and turn into a public display, mocking it and making it look cheap and worthless.
I don't watch porn myself, as the idea of seeing another guy, let alone his dick, is gay AF to me and I can't understand why anyone (especially straight males) would even want to watch porn, as in, two (or more) people f*cking. However, what I can say on it is this...
Porn stars make cheap and easy money for doing something most people (especially men) would love to get paid for. They know the risks going in, and shouldn't be lauded for selling themselves out like that. I am neutral to porn stars and treat them like anyone else (one of my best friends growing up even became a big-name porn star; she's retired now, though), as I don't watch porn, but they aren't "heroes" or anything. Like with sex work or white collar crime, they're taking the easy way out in life and making sex look cheap and meaningless in the process. Not to mention, selling the fantasy of what sex is "really" like to virgins and fueling depression, sex addiction, and body dysmorphia issues. Porn is probably more harmful to society as a whole than beneficial. I am glad people who enjoy it can enjoy it, but in an idealized utopian society, I don't think anyone would be watching porn.
If someone is willing to be a porn star, they should be confident enough to take the public ridicule they'll get for it, since they're getting paid large amounts of money to do something any attractive-enough adult could do. In other words, take the good with the bad, instead of being entitled about something that already has enough positives to it.20 ReplyThere’s a difference between respecting that someone is human and respect for making good life choices.
They didn’t murder anyone but they also aren’t known for making good life choices that contribute to community and family. Moral relativism that rejects the idea that any values accepted by anyone are ok is simply utter nonsense.90 ReplyNo I don't, like others have said, it's glamorized prostitution. I also don't respect porn in general. One, because I don't agree with it. Two, guys see the girls in porn and assume that's how women in real life are supposed to look. And three, guys assume that women on real life will do some of the things they see in videos. It changes what they expect in bed in real life, just like women that read 50 Shades Of Grey expect that to be like real life sex.
(Not all men, but I'm going based on my personal experience).30 Reply
+1 yI feel that people in general don't respect pornstars because of the nature of the work they do. People automatically think "I could do that" or "anyone could do that". They think their job is so much easier than anything else, comparing it to prostitution and even mistaking it for prostitution. Many people see this occupation as being morally wrong and therefore have no respect for anyone in that field. Those of us who live in the U. S. may also have a negative view of the profession because prostitution is illegal and those who engage in such activities as dirty and criminal. Personally, I give respect to anyone and everyone until they do something which would cause them to lose that respect. So yes, I respect pornstars. Work is work, we all do what we do to live our lives.

+1 ySelling your body and throwing away your morals and self-worth for money doesn't deserve any respect, how can you respect such a person who has no standards, limits, or self-control? They refuse to work hard to gain money and they take the easy way around, and i can't respect that at all
This doesn't apply to female pornstars only, i feel the exact same towards males as well
Making such poor life choices, keeping at them and even being proud of them makes it all worse
Also i'm against objectifying women in any way, and if a woman choses to do that to herself then i'm against her as well because she's only bringing harm to herself50 Reply
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yOkay, so where I don't agree with porn is where they have girls forced into it or it caters to some sex trafficking agencies. However, in regards to pornstars, they don't normally get respect because people view them as dirty for selling their bodies and putting out there for everyone to see. But in my opinion, of course, everyone deserves at least basic human respect. But they also deserve respect because they do offer a great service, or else they wouldn't be porn STARS. Porn is a big business that caters to almost everyone across the world. They live out the fantasies of everyone and provide sexual pleasure to many. Yeah, it's not an average job but it's hard work and not everyone can do it and become a star at it. They get my respect from that.

Glad to see that I'm not the only one aware of the destructive business in how some porn industries are linked with such criminal behavior that affects society - sex trafficking, rape, domestic violence, incest, child pornography... can stem from how porn fantasizes these things. Pornstars who glamorize those sorts of work lose my respect.
I wouldn't say it's pornstars that aren't really respected, more so the porn industry as a whole and because a pornstar decides to make the choice of placing themself within the industry (depending on the type of porn that they do), some sorts of pornography can cause a negative effect on creating a poor fantasy that's corrosive to society.
Growth in sex trafficking, domestic violence, child pornography can stem from porn. However, it isn't much diffrent than vulgar Hollywood movies.44 ReplyBecause it is not natural for a women to have sex with lot of guys like it is nothing. Our nature recognize that and we see them as damaged people which they are, at lest most of them. Female reproductive strategy is not to fuck a lot of guys, but to find one that would take care of the offsprings. She could cheet in secret that is also valid strategy to have good genes but to do it in open is sure way to discourage anybody who would invest time in helping her rise the children. Our culture developed around those natural rules and now stupid people think they are open minded when they think that social customs are all arbitrary and stupid all that from the safety of the society that they don't understand
20 Reply456 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. A lot of people look down on sex workers because they ultimately don't agree with their choices. I think there's also an element of misogyny as well, believing that these women have no worth simply because they engage in sex work, unable to understand that these women are often very confident, educated and creative people. I of course respect them and I think some of them are the chillest people alive, the interviews with them are great.

Sorry my English is quite good :😀 I would like to thank adult industry for doing so... ;) It really need guts to do it I am grateful 🖤 People could have no respect for those working in adult industry... I see a lot of couples moving in front of me trying to show look we are going to have a sex tonight... 00 ReplyTo me sex means something other than getting ones rocks off and should be between the 2 people involved in the act, not the 2 people and the millions that happen to be watching. In this way, I don't respect the "work" that pornstars do (I wouldn't even really call it work).
30 ReplyThey're not respected because they're whores. Their job is getting plowed by tons of random guys on camera. Their future children can go online and see their mom on her knees gagging on a 10" BeeBeeCee.

Do I respect being porn actors as a profession? No.
Does that mean automatically mean I don't respect them as person? of course not I can respect them as person. because people are more than just their job but respecting someone as person doesn't mean you always have to agree with the choices they make.00 ReplyBecause they’re opening up their body to whoever wants it for money. I believe you're thinking of prostitutes. Porn stars and prostitutes are not the same
- +1 y
@FlyingMango Pornstars are glorified, sometimes glamourized prostitutes..
- +1 y
Not quite. The difference between prostitutes and pornstars is like the difference between wrestling and the WWE, in that the latter is simply a performance/it's fake. A certain formula is followed because it's visually appealing or entertaining, and that's the goal. Pornstars don't just grab someone off the street and go at it. Everything is set up and executed according to the desires of the director of the film, including positions. They have to listen to the director and redo scenes as necessary to satisfy the director. In this sense they are just like actors. Pornstars also don't just sleep with anyone they are told to or paid to. They can choose just like you and I can. Pornstars also tend to have second jobs.
- +1 y
@FlyingMango I mean they still get penetrated and paid for it at the end of the day.. That's why I said glorified, and glamorized and fake.. Plus, some of the porn stars in the past came into the business because they are prostitutes.. And many are also female escorts... I just call them Prostitute actresses..
- +1 y
@FlyingMango prostitutes get paid to have sex. So do porn stars.
- +1 y
I'm not denying that it isn't a part of the job, but that's not the whole thing. One similarity between occupations does not equate the two. A food cart vendor and a professional chef both make food for customers, but they are not the same.
- +1 y
@FlyingMango But at the helm of it all a food cart vendor is still a chef just not a big one.. It's the same wit porn and prostitutes..
- +1 y
Then do you call prostitutes pornstars? No, you probably don't because you understand that there is a difference between the two.
- +1 y
@FlyingMango one is far worse.
Pornstars let people film them- they have even less self respect then a prostitute. - +1 y
@FlyingMango Well no cause Prostitutes ain't porn stars.. But Porn stars can very well be prostitutes..
- +1 y
@VaIiant They have no self respect? You think they are punishing themselves? You think they had no choice? They have plenty of self respect. They take care of themselves they don't do things they aren't comfortable with for money. Just because YOU think someone in that occupation has no self respect, doesn't make it true. Maybe ask a pornstar how they feel about their jobs or find out.
- +1 y
@FlyingMango you’re putting words in my mouth, b. I never said anything about punishing themselves or if they had a choice or not. If you have self respect, you don’t make sex tapes.
- +1 y
@JDavid25 That's exactly my point. Prostitutes aren't pornstars. They are not the same. You admit that there is a difference between the two, yet you would still call a pornstar a prostitute for no reason other than to crap on their lives.
Also, "can" and "is/are" are very different things. Pornstars CAN be prostitutes, yes, but pornstars ARE NOT prostitutes. YOU can be a prostitute, but just because you can, it doesn't make it true. If a pornstar chooses to become a prostitute, then sure, that person is a prostitute. That person alone, and not the whole group. - +1 y
@FlyingMango they exchange sex for money. That is the DEFINITION of prostitution.
- +1 y
@FlyingMango No I acknowledged that I wouldn't call a regular prostitute a pornstar, not that they are different.. Bein a pornstar is essentially just prostitution on a movie set.. Especially wit what pornstars were said to have went through in they past careers.. Not all porn-stars are essentially glamorized Prostitutes on a movie set.. And I'm not dumpin down on they lives, I'm just acknowledgin that bein a porn-star is essentially bein a prostitute..
- +1 y
@VaIiant you pick one aspect of the job and generalize it as if that's the entirety of the job. A CEO of a company does paperwork but you wouldn't call them a secretary.
- +1 y
@FlyingMango neither the CEO, nor the secretary, is selling their vagina for cash.
- +1 y
@VaIiant didn't see your other comment till now. YOU wouldn't make sex tapes if you had self respect. The conditions for having or not having self respect is not written in stone like some law that everyone must follow if they wish to have it. Where YOU draw the line for self respect applies only to you. Imposing YOUR standard of self respect on someone else is akin to shoving your beliefs down their throats. They are under no obligation to abide by your standard for self respect. Everyone has their own. Self respect derives from everyone's own personal beliefs and values. Generally, if you respect yourself, you take care of yourself and avoid doing any actions that would compromise who you are as an individual.
- +1 y
@VaIiant yes, I'm impressed by your ability in deduction that you were able to arrive at the conclusion yet not able to understand the comparison I was making.
+1 yBecause they are prostitutes. They are literally being paid to fuck. They also set a very bad example for the fact that porn is all for the cameras and not the c people.
