Case #1: I've definitely dated a guy solely because he was smart and confident, even though I wasn't really physically attracted to him.

Did his intelligence make me like him? Yes, although it eventually annoyed me how condescending and arrogant he often was because of it.

Did his intelligence turn me on? No. Not in the slightest. I actually dumped him after a few months of pressuring me for sex.

Case #2: My current boyfriend. I made the first move for once on a guy I thought was attractive, and as it turns out he's an entirely nice person, and pretty smart to boot.

Does his intelligence make me like him? Yes. I love when he geeks out over something or takes an opportunity to teach me (he's studying to be a physics teacher), because learning is something I value highly.

Does his intelligence turn me on? ...Not really. I'm attracted to him for other reasons, but having a debate with him over whatever interesting subject doesn't necessarily make me want to get in his pants. If anything, it makes me want to cuddle.

So for me, while intelligence is something I value highly, it's not something that actively turns me on (at least as far as I can discern).

Intelligence is just as if not more than important than good looks and appearance. For me, intelligence can make the plainest guy sexy just as a lack of intelligence can make the hottest guy in the room unsexy!

Being able to hold a deeper, more meaningful conversation about life or whatnot is of great importance for me and most women. However it can all depend on the difference in intelligence levels... For instance, an intelligent woman would rarely go for an intelligent man. And probably it works vice versa, but I can't entirely say - let the guys answer that!

So yes - intelligence is a quality in a man that has a high ranking. But one thing that is not sexy is a know-it-all! Yes, you may have a better grasp on a subject than the person with whom you are conversing - but that does not mean that one should belittle that persons opinions just because you are "right". Respect and modesty goes a long way :) Intelligence is not just about knowing the facts. That's just knowledge. Intelligence is a way of understanding and looking at things and acting on them ! It's not a turn on but being able to relate gets you 'in the door ' or, if you're undeniably pheremonally attractive but a pompous know-it-all or uneducated ignoramus then your pheromones will no longer be 'getting through' to me.

Kindness, not soppiness new age-iness or holier-then-though-ness

but true kindness is my big turn-on.

I think true sympathy and empathy and patience take high intelligence...they are realms of thought that are very abstract, so it's a certain kind of intelligence.

Yes definately, it's not the first thing I look for but it certainly is something that can be noticably picked up on and gives someone an edge of 'class'. Not always, some inteligent people are conceited and egotistical but if you find the right one I think it only adds to that person's attractiveness. You can have long conversations about things you're passionate about and the views you have. I also think being somewhat intelligent and conversant helps to have a good sense of humour and be quick witted, it helps you to be a good conversationalist. These don't require a level of intelligence but the more knowlegdeable you are I think makes you a more rounded person.

I guess I would define intelligence as having a good level of knowledge and being able to express it well. You can usually pick up on someone's intelligence from the way they put things across, the words they use, the way a conversation seems to 'flow' easier..lots of things really.

I don't think I would be happy in a relationship with someone who was not at least as intelligent as myself. Or someone MORE intelligent! If they cannot get my jokes...what's the point? If I am forever trying to explain what I am trying to say or do, and so are they, it's not a very nice relationship.

They don't have to be the same kind of intelligence as I am, I mean, I know a lot about etymology and the evolution of language, but they might know a ton about history or programming. That's actually more like "knowledge" rather than intelligence anyway. Intelligence (to me) is being nimble enough in the mind to learn new things quickly, and being willing to do so.

Intelligence is security in many ways.  Women tend to look for men whom are adequately intelligent & will potentially be good providers.  There are many different types of intelligence, a car mechanic can even be considered a genius.  It all depends on the person and their preferences, we all have different forms of intelligence, whether they're "book smarts" or just really clever.

Intelligence is a major turn on and fairly important, intelligence however can take many forms. Someone can be very academically intelligent , or very kinetically intelligent. People show it in different ways.
