Well to be frank waving to or hugging a guy friend is considered feminine and there isn't much else to do other than punch, for most guys even if they were never in a fight know that they would use their fist to punch, when lightly punching it doesn't show you as being aggresive but gainsthe attention of the other person and they will know that they are trying to say hello or comfort them

so a punch is a girls version of a hug! I get that! :D .. its just that one of my brothers always punches my arm (bicep area) from time to time and it hurts -.-' and I just don't get it :/ well now I do anyway :D

Well, it's not quite 'hitting'. Sure, it might seem a touch more aggressive that how girls tend to greet one another, but it's not like guys actively intend to injure one another (well, y'know, the sane ones).

i know its not to injure one another but it just doesn't make sense in my female mind that you would hurt someone lightly like I would hug a girl any time

We're jut socially engineered that way, I guess. Guys are more or less expected to be able to take a hit, so, in our developing years, we just use that kind of thing as a greeting, and that kinda sticks.
