Why do racists & other trump supporters honor the confederate flag, when that flag represents them getting their asses beat like an inbred stepchild?

It's not the flag of the South, it's the flag of a singular regiment out of Virginia. The actual Confederate Flag looks different. The reason that Regiment Flag is popular today instead of the actual Confederate Flag is because after the decision in Brown vs. Board of Education, Georgia added it to their state flag and it started appearing on college campuses around the south as a way to say, "No desegregation without a fight." It's a racist symbol.

Furthermore, about a quarter of the Union's troops were actually from Southern States, for the entirety of the war the Confederacy was fighting pro-Union militias in their own territory, especially in Tennessee and Alabama, North Carolina didn't even want to secede and freed slaves from the South also joined in the fight against the Confederacy. All said and done, as many Southerners fought for the Union as they did for the Confederacy, and it could be argued that Southerners won the Civil War for the Union by keeping the Confederacy, a fundamentally racist and autocratic state, fighting on two fronts.

That's not even the Confederate Flag, you'd think people concerned with their "heritage" would recognize that. That's Lee's regiment's battle flag, which until the 60's was considered a symbol of lost causes (NOT "The Lost Cause" by the way). The reason that flag is popular today is because when they were desegregating schools, that flag was added to Georgia's state flag and started showing up on college campuses as a way to say, "Not without a fight."

Racist supported Obama and still do, not everyone is into the Confederate flag, but it is still around and embedded into the Mississippi state flag and the General Lee from Dukes of Hazard. Is every single person in Mississippi racist? No, but it is still flown. It represents anti-federal government sentiments (not my sentiment, but those part of that culture). They reference the state power of the time not the evils of the state. The confederate government was wrong and the institution of slavery its greatest evil, but the fight between state and federal government rages on to this day. I am for a federal referee, but prefer limited state and federal government overall. Just because one supports Trump doesn't make them a racist anymore than those that supported Obama.
