Unrealistic expectations (in video games)?

I'd like to know people's opinions on video game characters, more specifically, the women.

Most of the time, the women in the fantasies are surprisingly busty, curvy in all the right places, dressed up in fetish-like attire and don't really mind the cold or heat. They're skilled in whatever the game is made for and they know how to kick ass. Every guy's fantasy

But what's the real psychology behind it? Why are these women so unrealistic?

I can't help it to sometimes think that my boyfriend secretly wants to me to look like Lara Croft or Tifa Lockhart.

So really, what do you guys think? :/

I'll update this by including the unrealistic image that developers push on women by making men look like Gods. :)


I think its completely idiotic. I love guys, no matter of the shape.

It is no different than the unrealistic guys in romance novels... Never heard of a man, lest he is a sensitive guy that was the only male sibling with 4 sisters with no dad in his life... I am being sarcastic, here, but you get the idea...

Look at whom the games are marketed to... Lara Croft (I presume you were singling this character out based upon your quotes..) was marketed maily to 16-20 year old males... If lara croft looked asy, 5'5" 30B-25-31, for example, the game itself probably would not sell... It is the same reason they have bikini models in malt liquor ads and other alcohol ads at any liquor store: SEX SELLS. Especiaslly pertaining to if the target are males... In the case of Lara Croft, she was designed to fulfill the fantasies of horny teenagers... I bet if it were a male character, tomb raider would have never made it past the first installment. Enough said about that.

Inevitably, when it pertains to entertainment, especially those of gender specific marketing, it almost seems steriotypical the lengths taken to pander to the target audience...

Mostly males play those games. So why not give them another reason to be into it? They do the same thing with the male characters by the way. How would you feel playing a character who was more pathetic than you? Not too enthused I imagine. May as well go outside and be yourself. But if the character has muscles, a huge hammer, and a d*** that ejaculates money... well I'd have to sit down and play that... Same goes for female characters. As a girl, you can be a virtual vixen, or whatever horrible thing you perceive yourself as in real life.

They're pixels, doesn't really bother me. My boyfriend and I play video games all the time.. he always plays the chick character with huge boobs, but I don't get caught up in this complex that he wishes I looked like that. Video games are unrealistic.. If I'm playing a game, I usually pick the hottest chick character available too.

They're virtual characters, so the creators have a platform to make them as unrealistic as they want.

Guys get unrealistic images of women everywhere & studies have proven men who watch glamour p*rn/play video games with those girl characters are less attracted to average women and have higher standards.

Girls also get unrealistic images of men but it's promoted as fantasy while some of mens unrealism is promoted as reality.

Pornography actually lowers my standards for women, to be honest, the women there are covered in make up and sweat, it also makes you realize how, well contumelious p*rnography is to the average woman, but you shouldn't see it that way, I find the average girl beguiling.

well making them average would be like making the guys you see in cosmo and abercombie look like average guys,with beer guts and balding heads,we accept it in real life,but if I'm paying for something I want it to be damn perfect,otherwise what's the point?

Erm, they're just the same with guys, you know. We're not all 300 lbs of muscle with the shape of Greek Gods. They're games, most of the are gonna be unrealsitic like that.

i think its just a fantasy where some guys can escape from... no biggie... its really about gender rolls with society.

Women have unrealistic idealizations of men that have nothing to do with physical attributes. And guys see it everywhere, not just in video games.
