As a moral matter, Israel's democracy ought be preferred to the alternatives seen in the Palestinian cause. It being noted that the Palestinian Authority President is in t he 17th year of his 4 year term. That said, from an American perspective, it should properly be viewed as a strategic calculation, not a moral decision.

Insofar as the current Mideast situation is concerned, the conflict was born when under the Balfour Declaration of 1917, the British - then the imperial power in the region - made what is today Israel a homeland for the Jews. This being affirmed by the United Nations Organization after World War II.

As to who may stake an ultimate claim, under international law, the area was divided into two states, but the Arab states rejected this and attacked. In the end, the attack failed and the whole area became Israel and the Arabs who lived in the region considered themselves to be occupied.

As to who has the historic claim, it is lost in the mists of time. Strictly speaking the Jews arrived in the region well before the Arabs. The Arabs not arriving in the Middle East until 636 AD - long after the Jews had settled the region. The Jews themselves having not been native to the region but having arrived from the Semitic tribes of Mesopotamia in about the 2nd millennium BC.

Suffice to say, a problem with that historic an ancestry is not apt to be settled by appeals to the historical record, much of which is obscured in the mists of time. The twist being that a PALESTINIAN people - as opposed to more generic Arab peoples - is a recent invention. Born primarily in the 20th century as an outgrowth of - in another irony - European imperialism.

Thus, Palestinian national identity is relatively thin gruel and why, in fact, it has become less of a force in the Middle East. Indeed, it is why the Palestinian cause is now led mostly by pan-Islamist forces - see also HAMAS. Pan-Islam being a forced that defines identity not in national terms but in religious ones.

The further irony being that after the Palestinian nationalists supported Iraq against Kuwait in the 1990-1991 Persian Gulf War, the Arab states began to abandon the Palestinian cause. Such today that the principle benefactor of the Sunni Muslim Palestinian Arabs is Shiite Muslim Persian Iran.

Thus today, the current fireworks in the Middle East is more deceptive than not. The Palestinian cause - as a nationalist cause - is largely dead. Being more akin to a civil rights movement than a nationalist cause. The Arab states have largely abandon it in favor of peace with Israel as a counterweight to Iran.

The Palestinians, never having had a deep sense of national identity, are recurring to a more general sense of Arab and Muslim identity. In this the Iranians are backing them largely as a way to pressure their Arab rivals - particularly Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan, the latter two of which already have peace treaties with Israel.

Suffice to add that if Saudi Arabia - keeper of the Muslim Holy Cities of Mecca and Medina - were to make peace with Israel, it would likely split the Muslim world wide open. Particularly along the Sunni/Shiite divide but even within Sunni Islam.

reason why there are more deaths on the Palestinian side is that Hamas uses the same children you talked about as human shields. Hamas fires missiles from civilian buildings, Hamas establishes its headquarters inside schools, kindergartens and institutions where there are innocent civilians and children. Hamas does not care about protecting Palestinian civilians, it uses them to protect itself. - Unfortunately this is not the truth, Hamas is a terror organization They use innocent children and people to protect themselves and doesn't care if those people will die and get hurt. Before we bomb a building, that Hamas are using for terror benefits, we make sure that there are no innocent civilians there! If you really want to stand for humanity, you should check the facts again and understand that Hamas is the one that is hurting Israelis and the people of Gaza as well!!! It is a *terror* organization and Israel has the right to defend itself when Hamas and Jihad (another terror organization) attack our country!! We all want peace, but we have the right to defend our people and our land facing terror!! Well I stand by Palestine because Israeli are invaders and wanna get rid off the Palestinian race cos they wanna invade the mosque Al aqsa which was built by Soulaiman the prophet and it's Muslims prophet not jewish and also the muslim people have lived there since the age of stones even Mohamed has lived there... And the history has witnessed the Isra and meeraj trip in there..
They wanna have all the natural richness and also bcz Palestine is situated in a strategic area that's why America is supporting Israel...

I'm in favor of the 2 states solution, knowing it will never happen, because let's be honest, both parties don't want peace.
Hamas is a bunch of terrorist assholes, they're not defending anything except their will to eradicate jews.
And Israeli government live because of war. By promising to protect the citizens against terrorists, they keep being reelected.
Truth is, Palestinians would never accept a middle ground, they want the Israelis eradicated. And Israelis will never give up on the land.
But I can't support Palestinians when people are importing their conflict in my country, and end up burning stuff, threatening, insulting. Just this week, pro Palestine protestors tried to burn synagogues in Germany, stoned the Israeli embassy in Denmark, rioted in Sweden, and attacked cops in my country.
Why would I care for such people?

I stand with humanity... Innocent people died on both sides. Its a human tragedy and I can say that unfortunately, Israel killed more people than Palestine. They killed babies. Can you believe this? Fundamentally, Palestine was invaded by Ashkenazi Jews from Europe, who have treated the Palestinians terribly.
The Arab world did not know what modern terrorism was, until the Jewish terrorist Irgun and Stern gangs educated them.
Entire Palestinian towns were exterminated by Jewish terrorists during the 1940s, to terrorise the Palestinians into fleeing.
The Palestinians want their ancestral homeland back. That is understandable and reasonable.
The Israeli Jews do not want to be driven into the sea and exterminated.
That is also understandable.
I cannot propose a solution to this situation.

The slogan on one side is "Free Palestine" the other side it's "Death to Arabs". One side is stealing the homes of the other side that has lived there forever. You want immigrant Arabs to go back where they have come from? Start with not kicking them out of their homes in the first place! If America, India and the other countries stand with Israel then give a piece of your land to them but leave the Palestinians alone! Of course first thing is finding solution but we find roman system is not enough to solve problems but now is so although have another solution but just an idea now. and I heard islam and christian have a though so that may fight it can not compatible but Lebanon does it. Israel deserves to exist but they are utterly in the wrong here and have been for a long long time.

You can only rely on the "we're surrounded by enemies" line for a limited time before the facts smash that narrative into tiny pieces.

They are surrounded the way a pre-school teacher is surrounded. They are VASTLY more powerful than their neighbors and they treat the Palestinians the way the strong have historically treated the weak.

The retaliation is wrong and misguided but totally understandable. Israels continued domination and destruction is wrong, and it utterly not understandable to anyone with a shred of moral decency or any knowledge of the facts on the ground.
