I personally think the term mom enough degrades women who are trying to not show. Why show off feeding your kid? Moms don't show off taking their kids to McDonalds like this. Lol

I don't think it - attachment parenting - is a big deal. Given how fucked-up the world is with normal parenting, I don't see how this can be worse.

In 1994, I knew a woman who breastfed even when the kid could talk.
2-year old would say "Drinks." and the mother would whip one out.

Look I'm a fourth generation feminist - my great-grandmother went from dirt poor, put herself through night school & came to own multiple rental properties in the UK & Canada on her own hook as she married once & he died in WWI - where women have been raised to have not just respect for yourself but others.

And women like in this photo. Women who make a scene in public settings breastfeeding rather than being decent and having a blanket to cover - look if I am in a restaurant I am paying for my food and the service not for some woman's bare floppy breast (if I wanted that I'd go to a strip club) & her brat - are embarrassing.

They are merely attention seekers. Nothing worth note. But most certainly good for a laugh when they finally leave.

If you want to breastfeed that's fine and no one should give you shit for it, but when you start doing photoshoots and trying to provoke people (I've personally seen 2 people do this) it's no longer about feeding your child it's about your need for attention. Also the 'hook' is definitely shaming people which is not ok.

I am very much for women being given the chance to openly breast feed their kids.

it’s a choice, you can sit there and do it or cover up, or move some place quiet, however it needs to be a sensible choice available and no discrimination.

The photo on the magazine just really fucks things up.

A simple photo of a mum feeding her 6 month old kid would have sufficed, they just comes over as odd.

yes I know some kids are fed older, but it’s not really the norm.

that and the entire Attachment Parenting thing often causes more issues than not.

As a father I have had numerous ‘discussions’ about it with various friends, as for example that photo could have been a father bottle feeding is child.

at that age its ridiculous, he's got teeth and comes off like an unhealthy codependency situation with parent and child -- like making the kid totally inept to deal with life by literally breast feeding at that age. hell why not breast feed till 19 or 20? i mean this worlds lost it badly. why would breast feeding a kid and that age make you woman enough? having our periods make us woman enough, going through menopause, giving birth, insanity i swear i wanna go live in the woods away from this world.

Cookie I think the magazine cover photo is in very poor taste. I'm very supportive of mothers breast feeding, even in public settings. But putting what looks like a 4-year-old breast feeding on a magazine cover is gratuitous. And I agree with you about the message in the caption.

I was a manager in a McDonald's in Florida for several years. Florida has a state law that grants women the right to nurse their children in public places including restaurants and that included the McDonald's where I worked. On one occasion an old man demanded that I have a nursing mother arrested for indecent exposure. When I refused he called the police and when they got there he demanded they arrest the women, take her children away then arrest me for not calling the police. Instead the officers arrested him. So now we have a sign up on the spot where she was sitting that reads: THIS SECTION RESERVED FOR NURSING MOTHERS AND THEIR FAMILIES." Babies need to be fed regularly. What would you have a woman do with her hungry children?

well, that kid looks a little old to be breastfeeding and it could be bad for his health, mainly the formation of his teeth but other than that I don't see a problem. Also, before anybody starts with the whole it's a sexual organ thing 1 it's a secondary sex characteristic like a beard, 2 SHE'S TAKING CARE OF HER CHILD, 3 you can look away, 4 I find women attractive, I like boobs however I don't find it gross or sexy or indecent for a mother to take care of her child if anything I think "man she looks tired" or "dang, that kid's hungry"

A true mom doesn’t care about society’s opinion of how motherly she is. All she cares about is looking after her children, she does that without seeking validation and publicity.
How many women around the world struggle in silence yet take good care of their children without complaining a bit, while some privileged women publish semi nude pictures of their pregnancy and breastfeeding in Magazines. Furthermore, they start looking for a nanny and nursery school before the baby is even born.
