"Everyone else" is not required to have "voter ID", numb nuts. It depends on the state or even the township. In my township, they have several options. I'm listed on the property role, so that's all I need. Sure. The general idea is that people in cities, particularly those in the lower class, don’t have driver’s licenses. They rely on public transportation and at best have a birth certificate. It’s not explicitly black/brown people, but they tend to be the ones who are most likely to fall into this category.

Of course they can apply for a drivers license or a passport, but those are blocked off by a paywall. Nothing significant, obviously, but enough to discourage anyone who is truly broke from going out and getting one if all they’re going to use it for is voting.

Another argument people use has to do is timing. Most of these election laws tend to get pushed back, either intentionally or not, to around primary season if not later. It doesn’t seem fair to block off an essential right like voting from people who don’t currently have ids without a proper amount of time prior to an election law being passed.

Of course, this could all be avoided if there were a system of government mandated identification from birth, something done in most other modern nations. As it stands however, in order to vote you still have to have your name registered in your home state, and some states do require a license number.

I don’t know where this idea that black people are “too stupid” to get ids comes from, seems like that’s a conclusion you decided to draw.

All of those are false arguments. The proposal is free voter ID for all citizens at no cost. You don't need a drivers' license. And there is no case about the "timely" issue. You obtain the voter ID, you vote in future elections. Simple.

The opposition to positively identifying who is voting can have only one motive. To assure an opening for voter fraud.

If you aren't willing or motivated enough to exert any effort to obtain a voter ID, you don't deserve to vote. Accommodations would be made for those physically incapable of filling out an application. There is no excuse for not doing this. All those in favor of voter ID are willing to make every reasonable accommodation. The whole anti-voter ID argument is a fraud. You can't get on a plane, go into a government building, or do a whole long list of other things you have a "right" to do without ID. Yet for the most important right you have, the Democrats are opposed to anything that protects the integrity of the process. It's BS!

The difference is that flying costs money. There is a monetary barrier to those things, meaning that there is no equal access. Now that’s fine for luxuries like travel. But voting? If there’s a monetary barrier, even a small one, it’s the same concept as a poll tax, which was initially used to prevent the lower class (and largely black population) from voting.

If you truly believe that voting is this singularly important right, why would you support something that curbs that right in a material way?

The reality of the situation is that it isn’t just “filling out an application”, unless the means to getting said application entails equal access to all people and does not have any cost to those applying for it. Plenty of people in this country don’t have id’s, and don’t have bank accounts. If you think that means that someone “doesn’t deserve” to have a right to vote, that’s fine, but you don’t have an argument as far as the constitution is concerned

It cannot be a no effort, no cost election. The goal is to make it as low cost as possible CONSISTENT WITH THE INTEGRITY OF THE PROCESS.

Well if you remember I asked you earlier if there were any existing id requirement in order to apply for said voter id. Assuming that they aren’t equally accessible, it will create a cost regardless.

You would be required to do whatever is necessary to establish your accurate ID the same way you establish it for a passport or drivers' license. So the answer is no, it would not require you to have another ID. The entire process would have no fee.
