I would say no. Rap came about as a way for the black community to express a lot of ideas pertaining to black conscious movements, racism, police brutality etc. I mean rap used to teach and now mainstream rap is i won't say garbage but it has changed a lot with meaning. It’s all about sex, money, drugs. Not a fan but it has still been shown to be used to influence the masses.
Rap used to be about relating to the poverty youth in bad areas as the rappers themselves came from those areas now its about how much money they have and sleeping with many women.. Rap has evolved but not for the better
Yes, I do agree with that.
there's a reason that television commercial says only 6^ of retail in the U. S. is owned by black people: Because they are illiterate, and willfully so. they've had over ten generations to recover from slavery, and they are actually worse off now than they were 50 years ago.
they are illiterate and they appeal to ignorance willfully.
President Obama tho.
RACIST in the building
Most is. But Eminem, Hollywood undead, Linkin park, icon for hire other's etc are really good. Literally if i look up great rappers look through them it's just tons of guys who mumble rap and have some dumb name especially if it starts with little then you know it's really bad. Then not to mention nicki minaj exists.

To quote Keith Richards.
"Rap music is a drum beat with someone yelling over it. It's for people who are tone deaf. "
I agree with that.
But to elaborate I will say that rap music is a very generic genre of music.
The vocalists all sound the same and nobody is actually playing any real musical instruments. The drums music you hear in most rap songs are produced on a computer.
I have seen tutorials on YouTube on how to create drum riffs and background music for rap songs. Any schlub can do it in a few minutes.
I am a fan of many different forms of music.
But I won't lie. I look right down my nose at people who listen to rap.
Yes I do. But that that doesn't matter. Those who lack musical ability or an understanding of poetry still have the right to do stuff they enjoy, even if it's at a lower level. I think the real reason rap is dismissed as nothing more than chanting to delight savages is more to do with the content which generally promotes criminal behaviour
Define "promote"
depends if it's old school rap then it's fine since that actually projected a message how tough life in the ghetto and projects and urbs were. but if it's rap from today nowadays then no it completely sucks and complete and utter garbage. all modern rap is crappy loud bass blasting from subwoofers that scratches with no clearity because people are to cheap to either fix their broken or oversized subwoofers or don't want to buy decent normal sized subwoofers that don't scratch when it's being played. and people don't play modern rap at a normal volume. instead they blast their ghetto shit forcing everybody else to hear that shit. if it was old school then that would be different but this new shit just fucking sucks
That quote is illiterate lol
Lyrical rap has some of the most dense wordplays, rhyme schemes, storytelling, and creative use of the English language of all music genres. MCs like Rakim, J Cole, Eminem, Nas, Kendrick Lamar etc are literally studied by linguistics academics because of their ability to manipulate the English language
Yes. Just listen to it. It's totally incoherent and doesn't make any sound logical sense.
It flips from money to hoes, back to money to weed then the house then speaks on his girlfriend then talks about his mom or aunt then talks about getting shots then talks about shooting someone then goes back and talks about money and drugs all in about 25 to 30 seconds in the same song.
You lose brain cells listening to this garbage.
Well I advise you to listen to Kery James, in the ombre of show business, you have an English translation, you will see that it does not talk about women, ass, drugs, prison.
Nah. you need to have a deep understanding of English, vocabulary subtext phrase, and references to be a lyricist..
Not many people can do what eminem
Kendrick, J cole jay z does.
Now if you talking party rap like mumble autotune sure maybe
I'll ignore the ironic fact that the sentence is incomplete. That dude is an ignorant idiot. I don't listen to much Rap/Hiphop, but it's a genre like any other - there's crappy artists and literal geniuses. If you think Kendrick Lamar is anything but extremely creative poetry, you're an imbecile. Just as an example.
Uh, no. Or if it is we can say the same about all songs with lyrics. Typically you don't need to know how to read or write to enjoy mass media. This doesn't mean that I'm impressed by rap today. Just saying.
Well depends which artists you talking about. Some yes, does seem that way. I can even like a rap song, because it's catchy, but then try to understand what they are talking about, which ends up random words that rythme with other word. Then there's sone artist that actually tell a story.
No, there are very talented Rappers (Tech N9ne, Chris Webby, Eminem, & so forth) who are very articulate & make very amazing references. You just have to weed through all the bullshit mumble rap to find the good stuff.
That journalist probably getting too hungry and needed to make some money by generating sensational fake news.
I assure you he does not lack money, he is one of our most famous journalists and also the most controversial.
Most journalists are morons, and the rest are ideologues. Lot of white middle class closet racists who hate on rap and hip hop culture because subconsciously they just see it as "black music", and they equate anything related to black culture as a sign of degeneracy. Never trust a journalist with an axe to grind
No. I don't listen to much rap but as a musician I see the art and talent in people that do it. It takes brains to put a rap album together just as it does with all music.
Not at all, I'd say writing and singing rap is pretty challenging. It takes skill.
Of course there is good rap and bad rap but that holds true for every genre of music.
I would say he's listening to the wrong kind of rap
I can't agree with something I don't understand. It's an incomplete sentence. Rap is an WHAT for illiterate culture?
Rap is a word that someone left the C off of!!
Far from it. I would assume it was meant to belittle a culture he didn't understand or care to learn more about.
Rap is often low-brow and lacking talent, merely rhyming meaningless words to a beat.
Those who hate rap do not... And will not understand it. That's how rappers and rap fans like it. Don't like the lyrics you're hearing? You're free to turn the song off. But don't EVER try to silence rappers. It's all about free speech for them.
What rap songs did you listen to that lead to your silly opinion?
Let me just say, if it's a basic mumble rapper you listened to... You've got a lot of research to do.
I think I can kick his ass and shove foie gras down his holes and I'm not even a bodybuilder.
Piss on his face. He'll probably find that to be "artful". What a fag. Art is what's popular. It's what's commercially successful. Rap is commercially successful. There's some gray zone where you can sort of do shit that's so innovative that people recognize it like decades or centuries later, and that's Artise with a capital "A". But you can't rely on some turtle-neck wearing faggot at Starbucks to tell you what art is.
You want to understand art then you steer clear away from turtle-neck-wearing coffee-shop-bumming, poker-faced nerd faggots.
And same with the fucking retards or, my bad, "people learning disabilities". That's called retarded, mate. You're retarded. You shouldn't be judging or making art with your shit. Sprinkling gold leaf on your diarrhea doesn't make it art you fucking retard faggot. Fucking special ed. It has spilled into everything, including art. I suspect your guy critiquing rap was one of those participation medal ones with a shelf full of fucking participation medals. What a fag.
A lot of the popular stuff yes but there is a lot of really good lyricists in the rap genre, probably more so than any other genre... So, hard to say. A lot of it is total shit.
He must be an illiterate, imbecilic individual, then
There have been studies that show lower IQ tend towards rap more often.
oh shit for me🤣
Not at all
I love to listen rap music , specially lyrical one they hit hard
It's whatever you make of it. I was in my early teens when Eminem was all the rage. I grew up listening to his songs and still do to this day.
yes rap teaches bad values and encourages anti intellectualism and drug use.
Only mumble rap. If you listen to hip-hop from the end of the 70s to the double 0s, then you can actually understand what they're saying
Ehh, no. It’s poetry. I don’t like Emily Dickinson or Kanye.
Nah. Rap is way too broad to generalize as a for illiterate subculture. Some of the smartest and most educated people love rap.
Rap is highly vocal, and most rap songs you hear were wrote. No, they're not illiterate.
RAP is music with a "C" in front. CRAP!!
T you mean. For trash.
@NightHawk99 Either works. But if you put a T in front of RAP you get TRAP.
That was my point. That's the shitty rap. Classic rap is good.
Just look at the lyrics.
In the US i don't know, but in France it is.
Some of it is, some of it isn't.
Rap is for a degenerate sub culture.
American culture is a sub culture?
@NightHawk99 I am so tired of white boys, hat backwards, blasting rap.
Grow the fuck up and you will be taken more seriously.
Eminem is dope asf tho
So is Tom MacDonald
They should call it crap.
no rap is fire
It's not my thing.
I hate rap "music".
no rap is fire
Sounds about right
