Most people fleeing their countries have hardships they are unable to overcome (many are targets of drug cartels) and are coming here for safety. When they arrive, they do not get get government money and find work immediately and work jobs many others will not take. @Waldoe - No. It is all about the people in those states being too lazy to do the work and choosing to live on welfare. The rest of us are paying money into the system that they are choosing to take instead of working. There are plenty of jobs available there that pay "a living wage" and that attract people willing to work, but too many in that area choose to be supported instead of supporting themnselves.
