Why do some people ask complete strangers for their Snapchat or Instagram etc?

I have had complete strangers online ask me for my Snapchat or Instagram

I don’t understand these people. It would be quite stupid for me or anybody to give their Snapchat to a complete stranger I have never met before.

Because it's relatively safer to as asking phone number. In snapchat it's just a username, totally disposable and can just block if shit turns south..
