Because the same folks who wanted to ‘occupy wall street’ are distracted by these same companies putting up rainbow flags and Black Lives Matter slogans on their social media accounts. That’s why these billion-dollar companies have become “woke”. To fool the simpletons.

Yeah 'woke' in 2010 used to mean woke about being 'awake' to the elite on Wall Street. And 'awake' to the fact that Obama was not the guy in power.
I remember it suddenly being attacked and the problem becoming 'the problem with fashion models' . It was a bizare and sudden shift.

My liberal friends are quick to say "we fight for all sorts of causes"

But honestly... no one in New Zealand worries about fashion models in political conversations.

And the 'problem with fashion models' version of woke, unless I am misinterpreting it, seems to genuinely have absorbed the attention of americans. Suddenly 'fashion models, fashion models, fashion models' are verywhere, and Wall Street is... invisible.

I am told that this isn't true and that it's just separate issues. Where I was in Texas, it was every liberals top priority (any attack of the elite class being completely communistic and taboo in that society). No one in NZ would be worried about something so superificial and it just FEELS like it has genuinely sucked up media attention.
