Why are southerners so mean and hateful?

I had to pass through the South at one point and got racist remarks and jeers. Why do that have to hate me for being born without European ancestry?

How would they like it if I had something going on and banned all those with Southern accentss?

The south was founded by slave lords moving up from Barbados, the society was stratified into a caste system with some people on top and others on bottom, it's easy to separate it into simply black/white, but while blacks could never be better than whites the "elites" considered the lowest class of whites to be on par with the blacks. This system was justified a huge variety of ways, they argued divine right, natural selection, and tradition among the usual suspects. When the civil war came the elites justified themselves by saying they were Norman descended and the North was Saxons, an obviously inferior race. That tradition has informed the Southern mindset to some extent since.

So to answer your question: Yes, they believe that you're in a lower caste because you're not European. If it makes you feel any better many Asian countries also have a caste system, both formal and informal.

I would say, that response was hurtful in itself. It's not that Southerners "love" hurting people. It's just the culture is different. Some are rude, some are kind, and most of the time one has to know how to work and communicate within the culture.

That would be the same as me saying that all Northerners (New York, New Jersey, etc.) are loud, rude, and obnoxious, but I know for certain that's not the case for all Northerners. The culture and way of life is just different compared to Southerners.

In general, hateful people are everywhere, as well as kind people. Whether you choose to be rude to others or show kindness, regardless if a person respects you or not, is solely up to you 👍
