Her disappearance and death are a shame, don't get me wrong.
But her disappearance and all the news reports about it are just another example of "missing white girl syndrome"
Think about it: It's not like White people have a monopoly on disappearing and being killed. The media only seem to report it when it's a White girl. When persons of color go missing, the media doesn't care.
That's the problem.

TITLE: Gwen Ifill Was Right About ‘Missing White Woman Syndrome’

...
I have been in journalism my entire professional life — over 30 years — and I, like many others, have seen a consistent pattern of missing white women and girls receiving outsize coverage when other missing people receive none.
In 2004, at the Unity journalists of color convention in Washington, Gwen Ifill coined the phrase “missing white woman syndrome,” joking that “if there is a missing white woman you’re going to cover that every day.”
It is not that these white women should matter less, but rather that all missing people should matter equally. Race should not determine how newsroom leaders assign coverage, especially because those decisions often lead to disproportionate allocation of government resources, as investigators try to solve the highest-profile cases.

Totally on a tangent, I was looking at my Facebook feed today and one of my Facebook friends is related to Gabby.
I want to add another source about Missing White Woman Syndrome...
The Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology is a 111-year old peer-reviewed journal.
In 2016, a study was done to see if "Missing White Woman Syndrome" was real.

ABSTRACT:
At any given time, there are tens of thousands of Americans
categorized as “missing” by law enforcement. However, only a fraction of
those individuals receive news coverage, leading some commentators to
hypothesize that missing persons with certain characteristics are more
likely to garner media attention than others: namely, white women and
girls. Empirical investigation into this theory is surprisingly sparse and
also limited in multiple ways. This paper aims to fill those voids by
empirically exploring whether that inequality, dubbed “Missing White
Woman Syndrome,” truly exists. Based on a multi-method approach using
Federal Bureau of Investigation data and data culled from four major
online news sources, the results indicate not only that there are, in fact,
race and gender disparities consistent with Missing White Woman
Syndrome, but that they manifest themselves in two distinct ways: (1)
disparities in the threshold issue of whether a missing person receives any
media attention at all; and (2) disparities in coverage intensity among the
missing persons that do appear in the news. The paper concludes with an
examination of the theoretical and practical implications of the results and
a discussion of possible future directions for research.

CONCLUSION
...
... the findings of this study remain persuasive. The race and gender disparities are evident
across multiple sources and using multiple methods of analysis. The disparities are also quite large and, for the most part, consistent with the differences predicted by MWWS. As always, future research that can replicate or more precisely test the hypotheses of this article would help reaffirm its conclusions. Still, the results of the analyses here help confirm that Missing White Woman Syndrome is a real, empirical phenomenon. Based on these results and in the words of Charles Ramsey, it is safe to say that “something is wrong here.”
Everything these days is about racism. If she was white and found in a matter of days its racist and if she's black and she was found in a matter of months its racist, it wouldn't be if the it were opposite tho. Its about context with people who call cases like these racist not the actual victim.
I love how people are relating it to black people when in reality, people were mad because more than 710 indigenous girls have gone missing and they didn't get as much coverage as Gabby Petito, though I think it's unfair to Gabby (may her soul rest in peace)
I have no idea

The argument I heard was that because it’s a cute blonde white girl we’re paying attention to the story. If it was a black girl who disappeared we wouldn’t be hearing about it.
the media has only themselves to blame, There the ones who put out the news, if they think it’s racist not to cover a black girl going missing or murder then by all means cover that. Instead of sitting there and complaining about how it’s racist to cover Gabby Petito. But that would destroy there narrative because most murders and crime are committed by people of the same race as the criminal. So if they were to cover a black girl going missing and murdered they would have to likely cover a black man killing the black girl. Which would give republicans the case that we need police in these areas so they ignore the story of a black girl going missing and killed and then complain it’s racist for us to know about gabby
Right now and day after day after day they're going to start becoming more and more race-bait questions our country is failing we have something called covid-19 and and the president of the United States is telling everybody to get a shot but there are people in the scientific area of viruses better say do not get the vaccine because it will fuck up your immune system forever the way that is genetically didn't put together so that means if it's true that the government's in big trouble for allowing this to happen if it's true in the Democratic agenda has been to start a race war for a long time so do me a favor when you hear a race big question please call them on it and tell them to fuck off get off this planet no matter what color you are people better start getting it together cuz we're going to need each other pretty soon and if we're fighting each other we're not going to be able to help each other and we need everybody Two Become One to become
I read every reply on this post, and the answer to your question lies right here on your thread.
A small minority of people NEED to make everything about racism, and these are usually white people. Joe Reid's name came up, and she's black, but she will say ANYTHING her white masters tell her to say, because MSNBC pays her 1.5 million per year to say it.
1. The native American are mad nobody talk about there missing girls. Which is a problem. But doesn't that happen on their grounds.
And racism, sexism, homophobia, get you more attention.
2. People got tired of seeing this story. Like people go. missjng all the time. Why is she on the cover of YouTube and everything else?
But she was a youtube celebrity that's why.
3. Obvious reason
Not sure but my guess is because at least 30 brown girls have gone missing since Gabby did but there has been no national coverage of them. To be fair, Gabby had a bit of an online presence before she went missing so that likely escalated the mystery. But it doesn't alter the fact that, despite the so-called liberal media discovering that a missing girl got a bunch of clicks and views, none of them thought that would hold true if they next featured any of the missing brown girls.
Because seven hundred something native American women are missing in Wyoming, but when a white person goes missing there, it becomes a big deal. White people are looked for more often and Reservations are very vulnerable to trafficking
Reservations are sovereign territory. If those girls went missing off a reservation those cases aren’t under U. S. jurisdiction. That is if it’s even true. Those are cases for the reservation police to solve.
Also do you really believe 700+ people could go missing and the authorities do nothing about it? Half the country got burned down last summer over the perception of like 20-30 black people being murdered by police. Do you really think 700 people of any race can go missing and no one says a word? No one is leveling charges against the state of Wyoming. In fact no one has said one word about the 700 missing girls until Gabby went missing. Least of all Joy Reid at MSNBC - the champion of racial injustice…whose so quick to make statements about missing white girls but sure didn’t care enough about Indians to do a segment on the supposed 700 missing Indians.
With the media as keen as it is to highlight any racial injustice, whether true or not do you really think they missed the the opportunity to talk about 700 missing girls who certainly are brown skinned and are missing and nobody is doing anything about it? Really?
You shouldn’t believe everything you hear.
@Exterminatore nice
People saying it's because she's white no one cares about it if she's black... same people watching networks and that never stfu about George Floyd. Same people forgetting BLM being painted in front of Trump Tower. They built a mural of a guy that put a gun to a pregnant womans belly. God Himself came down band stuck down a mural of him because even He's pissed off about this sideshow. Enough is enough. Shut up already!
People want to make everything about skin color it’s retarded
Right over the mountain where I live a little white girl went missing under suspect circumstances and was never found and I don’t remember that getting on national news every day and now nobody cares anymore so maybe everything ain’t always about skin color.
her name was Summer Wells
Because people will always make everything about race.
I haven't heard that?
Oh... here is what I'm guessing this may be.
I have heard some bitch that the media is covering it so intensely because it is a white girl. I'm guessing that is what we are talking about.
What can you do with miserable people who find fault and misery and offense in every single thing of life.
Let the loser, miserable people be miserable. Knock them out if they get too much in your face about stuff and won't keep their distance.
Such an apt response from a guy with a BMW logo as his avatar.
Stupidity. Not kidding. They see anything straight and white and automatically assume racism.
I've seen a lot of chatter about this girl so I'm assuming she's dead in some noteworthy fashion.
Potentially something to do with her being white while also being a young woman.
Unfortunately I'm too disinterested to actually Google for the story.
Perhaps I really should..
They should be sad and thinking about this girl who died and they should be worried to find a way to stop such crimes and not being stupid linking it to race and other stuff just so they can benefit from the situation...
This poor girl was killed and we pray that her soul is in heaven now and we also pray for such crimes to stop, who cares about what others uses this case for!
These people don't even have respect for the dead, they aren't even humans...
It’s the usual suspects that do- haters whose status and. remuneration comes from race gusting and saying outrageous things. Ignore them- they are trolls.
Some people make everything about racism. Yes, she's gotten a lot of publicity but that is because people are interested in the case. There are a lot of missing POC who don't get the publicity, but there are also a lot of missing white people who don't get the publicity either.
It's because missing white women tend to generate more press than missing women of color. Ergo... racism.
Whether or not I agree with the thought process is irrelevant, but you asked how they made it about race and that's how.
They’re saying it’s racist that she’s only getting all this attention cause she’s white
Because people are trying to start shit to piss others off. It has nothing to do with race, they want to use tragedy to cause a ruckus.
Just lowlife trolls that suck at life.
Because if she was black people and the media wouldn't be paying that much of attention to her murder.
Her story is terrible and I feel so sorry for her and her family. She didn't deserve to die.
The people who made the Petito case about racism are people who can't help but see everything through the lens of race. They are racists.
I know Joy Reid from MSNBC sure has. Don’t know if anyone else has.
All over now
Some idiots make everything about race and to be frank it isn't usually people of colour that do
Just another person I don’t care about kidnapped and winning the Darwin Award… I don't know why we talk about her at all.
This is Obama's America. Everything can be made about race and everyone is a victim.
Everyone is the victim EXCEPT Straight white men. We all know they’re oppressors and are never the victim regardless of circumstances.
@Exterminatore who's a suspect
Because everything is nowadays. And probably Trump's fault, too.
Who is Gabby? I dont care, because she's white thats why
Joy Reid... that racist bicchh on CNN.
She can't think about anything unless she's put it through her racist algorithm.
They've called pancake syrup and math racist, how is this surprising to anyone?
They have a one track mind. Everything is about racism to them. They just want to try to divide people.
Cause black people care too much about race and have to say they're the victim when they're still alive and she isn't.
They haven’t, they have just acknowledged the double standard when it comes to a white women going missing vs minorities going missing
Because it’s such an issue and no one talks about it. And white girls get soooo much press.
because not enough news stories are about Black women being murdered on Cross county van trips to National parks
Because they're lefty retards and racists
I haven't heard that one.
Everything is about race to those morons.
Anyone nowadays is liable to say anything
No idea.
Because humans are a bit retarded.
Not me...
Joy Reid
The list is too long but she raised an issue that if Gabby was black, this wouldn't be a national story and wouldn't still be in the news. She's just a race baiter.
If it's such a big deal, why doesn't Joy Reid keep similar stories not involving whites in the news? She's in the media. She's as guilty as everyone else... even more so.
