A few times, like shit-talking in comment responses to my answers about Japanese calling us Japs trying to provoke me. I can't remember verbatim but something along the lines of, "That's why we bombed you Japs into submission. Now you're all pussies." Things like that.
I don't really mind so much. It's not a big deal. It's just people on the internet behind their keyboards or mobile phones.
As for hating the other race, absolutely not as those people are hardly representative of even the vast majority of their race.
Is it true that Americans are disliked by the Japanese?
Not any I know. Sometimes Japanese hate foreigners if they had bad experiences, like I met some young ruffians before who hated foreigners of any kind. Japanese don't really think in terms of race much though. They think in terms of nationality. So it's Japanese vs. non-Japanese to the most xenophobic Japanese, not about white or black or Asian or Hispanic or anything like that.
Biggest tension too with Japanese is with Chinese, not Americans. A lot of poor Chinese immigrants come to Japan from mainland China looking for job opportunities. Some don't find them and turn to the underground economy: Triad, street prostitution, things of this nature. The most ignorant Japanese look down upon Chinese as a result, associating them with crime.
I heard that American military personnel were disliked in Japan. I figure because of our bases and possibly because of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Shit, us older generations now the Japanese were fearless and patriotic.
I think maybe not so much WW2 these days except for really old Japanese, and even most look at Americans fondly in my experience (my father as an example) since Americans really helped to rebuild Japan after. Also Japanese got to see from it that the imperial government's propaganda was false (Japanese were told that Americans could rape and pillage everyone and everything if they won as a way to motivate them to fight the Americans).
I could see some Japanese upset by military personnel. The vast majority in my experience though love America since American culture is very popular here: everything from Hollywood to American music and foods and so forth.
I must say that because we dropped those two bombs, as horrific as it was, more lives have been saved in the decades that followed by discouraging a third world war.
Most Japanese in my experience actually agree with that. Like no Japanese in their right mind wants to return to the period of the Japanese Empire.
Do you think the US should be the world’s police?
I think the world might be better off with every nation prioritizing its own interests. Take care of our houses before we take care of the world's, that sort of thing.
The issue with Isolationism is Hitler for example. What would the world be like had Germany not been defeated by the US, Britain and other allies? Can you imagine if Germany could have exploited the natural resources of Europe, Italy, Britain, Russia and North Africa? Those resources would have fueled one huge war machine for Hitler’s future objectives. Dictators and Authoritarians need to be prevented from occupying that much real estate and exploiting those amounts of natural resources. That destabilizes the entire world’s economies. After all, part of the reason for Pearl Harbor, was the US oil embargo posed on Japan. Natural resources alone are reason enough to go to war, and not just to keep your enemies from encroaching on your nation’s border.
The United States is lucky that we have vast amounts of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans protecting us. I don’t foresee Canada dropping maple syrup bombs or Mexico dropping burrito bombs on us anytime soon.
For sure, but I don't see that as being world police so much as defending the interests of nations. It's aligned to me still with the non-aggression principle of libertarian philosophy. I'm not an isolationist; I believe in cooperation and forging alliances when possible with those of common interests. I just think we're better erring on the side of non-intervention until we can very confidently deem a nation to be a threat to our common interests.
I see your point.👍
Who hasn't? Oh, yeah, white people... not.
