I think it's pretty obvious that this search is political theatre. Brian's race wouldn't matter if they thought he actually murdered her. My guess is that the FBI would have found the guy by now if they actually thought he did something they could charge him with. They did their autopsy and still haven't called it a murder.

After all of this time, they still haven't accused Landrie of murder, which I find interesting.
