Well there was a time I felt like that, so I stopped watching all the shit stirring news designed specifically to wind people up, stopped watch dumb fucks on YouTube that have an opinion about everything but actually know nothing, came off of social media and focused on my own life and my own circle. The world will always have problems, and there is little I can do about it but I'm damned if I'm going to get caught in the middle of 2 sides trying to tear each other apart. It's not anywhere near as bad here is the UK as it is over in the states, but the internet has no borders. There is definitely a move to divide and conquer and I just don't get involved with it anymore. I'm a much happier person now, I also have the ability to think for myself and not be goaded by a bunch of opinionated morons pushing what ever agenda benefits them at that moment in time.
I take solace in the fact that I'm not going to be alive all that much longer.
Even if Nancy, AOC, Omar, and the rest of The Squad- plus those morons in Portland, are able to dupe enough people to buy into their dogma, I won't be alive to see it happen.
I've read people here complaining that "Boomers" control all of the money and assets here in the USA. It's actually true, but I'm not leaving any of my money to be "fairly and justly" distributed. I'm spending it all and planning to die broke.
The fact that a thousand years ago, Holland was built on land that was reclaimed from the ocean! If they could stop the ocean from flooding their land a thousand years (or more) ago, I believe that science and the free market will come to a solution that saves coastal regions in the next fifty to one hundred years! I also just have faith! In the leaders of the free world like Biden and Obama who BOTH just bough multi million dollar ocean front homes! If they (the leader, and the former leader of the free world) bought ocean front homes, I’m pretty sure that this “massive coastal flooding” won’t be as bad as we plebeians have been lead to believe by word leaders like Biden and Obama! Call me crazy.
I'd probably listen more to scientists who actually study the climate than to reports on Presidents' real estate deals...
@CamembertAnus maybe so, but you don’t thin the leaders of the free world read the science, or is Barack Obama just too stupid to understand the reports he got every 3 months for 8 years? The president (or former President) of France just bought a multi-million dollar beach home too! Why is it that ALL these world leaders tell us we need to drive tiny electric cars or we are all doomed, yet they are investing everything in beachfront real estate? In 2001 Al gore released “An Inconvenient Truth” th that he said in NO UNCERTAIN TERMS à that the northern polar ice shelf will be gone in less than 20 years… well it’s 20 years and the North Pole is still there! Look OBVIOUSLY a global warming is happening, you’d have to be an idiot not to notice it. But why do they say things like “we are having RECORD numbers of hurricanes, the are more frequent, and they are more powerful!” Fir a girl who lives in Florida that scared the shit out of me! My parents always taught me “do your own research” and “don’t rely on someone else’s interpretation of the facts, look at the sources yourself!” So I went to the Miami hurricane center and pulled up all their records dating back to the early 20th century. I discovered that there is NO appreciable increase in either the amount of hurricanes, OR the severity of hurricanes! In fact if anything we are getting fewer Cat-4 and above storms! So yeah… when I do my own research look at where the people who should know the data the best, I see them not worried about sea level rise, and I see them outright lie about hurricanes! I know warming is happening, but I believe that they are exaggerating the effects to enrich their buddies who make and sell solar cells, and windmills!
Kudos to you for your curiosity and research. I kind of agree with you on celebrities, but TBF they are perhaps offering an antidote to the massive climate denial operation by the fossil fuel industry and its lobbyists.
My brother, who is one of the smartest people I know, is a data scientist and had a research job at a university, and he said the climate scientists (he was in another field) were scared shitless. Because it's worse than e. g. the UN has been telling people, because they didn't want to overstate it or be proved wrong. So their estimates have been too conservative. I don't know, I'm no expert, but I'm more worried than previously.
@CamembertAnus Also… You know what REALLY pisses me off? The statement “The science is settled” or “the consensus is clear”. First, science is NEVER settled, that’s what makes it science! When NEW evidence presents, we change our conclusions! And thats a wonderful thing. Pluto was a planet the science was “settled” then they sent a spacecraft to Pluto, to take detailed topographical mapping of the surface…what did we discover? Oops, it’s not a planet after all! It’s not that scientists were wrong, it that with all available data, the science suggested that Pluto was a planet! Then we went there and discovered that it wasn’t! Is the science on Pluto settled now? NO! Because science is never settled, it’s always changing in the face of new evidence! And consensus? That is the biggest load of horse shit! The greatest scientific discoveries were made by one man or one woman, who challenged the conventional wisdom and proved that the scientific community of that day was incorrect… because ONE person figured it out! But on climate change, suddenly consensus matters, and all there science is in! Give me a break! I believe in man mad global climate change, yes! But do I think it’s as catastrophic as the say? No not globally! Some areas will suffer, yes, but other areas Will thrive! Just as an example… deaths related to hyperthermia in Northern Europe have plummeted due to the warming! It’s just my opinion baby, it won’t change your life ONE BIT! oh and no… I’m not a goddamn Republican, and I’m definitely NOT a conservative! I’m a true liberal from a long line of life-long liberals. I just choose to not believe that AOC is right and the word will end in (now) ten years!
TBF I think what they're saying is that the data on this is pretty strong and comes from a pretty broad set of sources. Like ice cores, satellite images, and all kinds of other ones I don't know about.
I mean, like, we don't understand gravity, but we can make pretty good predictions about it, and we agree that it exists.
@CamembertAnus actually quantum physics has a really great example on gravity and an explanation of it, that gravity actually bends space. The example they use this a large metal sphere and put it in the center of a very large stretched sheet of latex. Basically the metal sphere stretches out the latex much like large celestial bodies “stretch gravity” in the example, you roll mid-size ball bearings across the latex when they come near the really big one, they bend towards the curve, sometimes heading in a straight line, and curving away until falling off the end of the sheet. Sometimes heading in a line they curve towards the sphere and they actually get caught in a “gravity well” and form a perfect “orbit“ but because of the gravity on earth they always fall down to the bottom.
But I thought that was an excellent description of gravity, that gravity affects space in much the same way that space affects time. I think there will be some marvelous discoveries that come out of modern supercomputing models from the field of quantum physics in the future! Sorry to go off on a tangent, but you brought up gravity, and I recently saw that demonstration in the physics lab!
I enjoyed that tangent. Also your username is hilarious.
I just remind myself that there are still good people in this world. There are some very bad people, but not all of humanity is awful

I just keep my focus on how doomed my own life is and don't really have enough energy to care about something so grand and abstract as the world. It's not like any of it actually matters, humanity won't last forever and the earth will be destroyed at some point eventually. All the atoms and energy will form new planets and maybe new life at some point in the great span of eternity.
That song's a classic! My life is more like this https://youtu.be/jySfU10IQu4
No, America is going to shambles and disgusting with politics
we vote a man in office and now he is letting all kinds of immigrants
in America so there is where your Covid is coming from and
VP Kamala Harris went down had a speech down there and
told the immigrants who are illegal do not come is what
she did now how many of the people understand English
yes makes no sense and I believe it will take a dam good
Republican who is nothing like Trump to turn this Country
around so I feel doomed
Worrying constantly would solve nothing. It’s a waste of time. Especially if you have zero control of an outcome. It feels better to be doing something healthy, being positive. We all have our moments that's normal.
Yeah, me too.
Talking with friends. Watching rom-coms or Hallmark movies where everything works out in the end. Focusing on accomplishing tasks that really should be done. I hate that one, but sometimes getting things off lists helps build momentum and make life feel like it's not stagnant. I put a lot of effort into my home environment because it's what matters most in my peace and calm.
I just unplug the internet... and go outside to live in the real world
i have been tempted to do that. but i don't want to be ignorant as to whats happening either
I'm not an ignorant... that's for sure
I just don't have the need to fixate so much on a bunch of weirdos that are quite loud and dumber than bricks
I have much better things to do, responsibilities and obligations as well... and that's besides of all the things I actually like and enjoy to do, with the people around me, you know... the ones that are really WORTH my time
so that's how I do it... it's been about 10 months since I do not carry a smartphone with me... lol
so I literally have no way to be fixating all day on what these numbnuts go on 24/7
"i been seeing a lot of not so good signs especially here in the United States and its gotten me feeling doomer about it all." - - That's exactly how I feel even though I'm not in the United States. I feel that our world is lost...
The problems we are facing, and our ability to comprehend them, is linear. The solution however are exponential. I have faith that as the rate of innovation continues to increase we will find ways to deal with these seemingly insurmountable problems.
Because the world’s been through much worse and we’re still here
yeah we may still be here but i can't help but think we're gonna go through a whole lot more suffering and death on the way there
Remembering that'll be fine once the genocides start to clear the overpopulation that is causing these issues
You approve of that?
I know it's required regardless of if I approve of it, not having emotions means you can explore that with none of those pesky matters regular people get bogged down by
Overpopulation is kind of a myth fyi

m.thewire.in/.../population-explosion-rakesh-sinha-bill
Noce to see you're ok with outright genocide for no good reason though…
The world population has in all of recorded history up to the past century been 3billion, the planet wasn't dying from a climate crisis a century ago, overpopulation is the cause and they'll soon start enacting such policies
Lets see your link for proof. I provided mine
That just says the population grew. It doesn't have any commentary about why thats bad or anything.
Read Ogilvy he commented on it and that was the 80's
not good enough...
Anyone with a brain can tell you that's bad, sorry what that diagnosis says for you
lol wow you suck at actually making a convincing case here. i just gave you two sources and i have more saying its not a major issue that you want it to be. sounds like you just wanna genocide people just because at this point.
Biased libtarded points are biased libtarded points
Before you ask I'll go last because libtards are slippery and not trustworthy at all hence I don't associate with them whatsoever to the point where my friends know if I ever get does with doctrine dogma disease, commonly known as liberalism, they have the freedom to blow my head off my shoulders
Exercising, video games, hanging with friends (even when I don’t feel like it) I force myself to go out and end up having a great time. Also know there’s always hope in the end
Our ancestors had a far harder time and their outlook was far bleaker. The difference is we just winge about it more.
I don't have much hope but I'll eventually be dead and won't have to witness it. So that's what I look forward to.
Yes, two things.
The fact that I can do nothing about it.
And that death is a part of life, all things are meant to end.
What these two facts does to me isn't to make me optimistic about the future but accept that wich is to come.
This has been a pretty bad year. So I have been forced to see things in a different light.
Don’t be down. We aren’t On Earth for a long time but definitely a good time.
I just don't think about it too much and avoid watching the news.
I just remember my Wife and kids will be just fine. I have made sure of it.
That's the thing. You can't feel not doomed. Because we ARE doomed. You just have to live your best life while you have it.
Knowing I won't be around to the fascist right take over.
Preparing for a plan b should this world start imploding metaphorically. I'm fully prepared to travel on foot if I have to.
Nothing. I've been a doom and gloom for a long time.
Not caring in the first place? Life is life.
not caring feels like conceding
Still sounds like giving up.
Im not talking a just just me dying i accept this, but all of us, and from the looks of it it may be sooner then later. and its also all our fault too.
We lived longer than a fly, we experienced more than a fly. The perspective of that, to me. Makes anything I can get is a win. After that is nothing more than a bonus. If humans all die off tomorrow then that's a fact I accept.
And if it's due to humans own's will then I accept it even more. Humans are still dumb though lol.
350 million privately owned weapons in the USA.
"Might as well enjoy life now I still can"
Nothing, I know its over
I feel the same way. I felt that cloud over my head since high school that "oh something really terrible will happen someday" only to be proven right in the last couple of years.
we all have to die eventually
Camping
I’m a doomer
Nothing lol
