It plugs into the hose on my CPAP machine and provides me with a constant stream of air while I sleep. There's plenty of air all around me at that time, but my brain is a lazy, lazy thing, and stops sending the "breathe" signal to my lungs when I doze off. This is Central Sleep Apnea, which is even more dangerous than the far more common Obstructive Sleep Apnea that you've probably heard of. Sleep Apnea is rated in AHI, the average hourly interruptions (though that's not what the acronym stands for), and the highest level is "above 30". Mine was 153. Officially, that's still "severe". In practice, it's "are you absolutely SURE you're still alive?". What it means is that since I got my CPAP machine, there have been two days- total- that I haven't used it. I'm VERY thorough- I have to be. If I didn't, I'd be risking a miniature stroke every time I went to sleep.

In June of last year, Philips- the company that made my machine- announced a MASSIVE class 1 recall of its -PAP machines and respirators, which is almost half the -PAP machines in the US. Apparently, the noise canceling foam that they use breaks down over time, and the gas it releases, which naturally gets sucked up with the air blown through the hose, is carcinogenic. If you use an ozone-based cleaner, it breaks down the foam directly, and you wind up breathing in chunks of carcinogenic foam (which is why you can't just safely remove it yourself). I did not hear about this from Philips, and I don't blame them- they never knew how to contact me. But I heard nothing from my doctor, or the sleep specialist, or the doctor who SENT me to the sleep specialist, or the company that gave me the machine in the first place- I only found out because a friend of a friend happened to overhear something, and thought "That might apply to [Namer]!".

I spent seventeen hours- literally- on the phone, trying to get through to Philips. And that wasn't broken up over a few days, that was waiting on hold at the start of business hours right after I'd heard. They released a statement, explaining that the plan was (in essence) to send out new machines that had different foam. They said you should discontinue -PAP machine use immediately, and that the replacement of all machines was probably going to take about a year. Naturally, I checked the marketplace online, but with millions of people scrambling to replace unsafe machines, prices had tripled. And I was still out of a job.

A year of no CPAP use would kill me. And to be frank, it would NOT be from brain damage. After a few weeks of headaches, as I started losing brain function, I'd face the prospect of spending the rest of my life being slowly reduced to drooling vegetable, and that's assuming I DIDN'T randomly wake up paralyzed, or deaf, or clinically retarded. I'd hold out for a while, then accept reality, and pour myself a hefty rum-and-hemlock cocktail.

Since that initial contact, I've received a grand total of two emails from Philips- one acknowledging my registration, and one updating the advice given- from "stop using your machine" to "talk to your doctor about using your machine". That came a month and change ago; I, figuring that slowly developing lung cancer was better than rapidly developing brain damage, hadn't stopped. I might not be here if I had.

So why am I saying all this? Well, the reason that the recall's been handled so badly is the Covid response. The reason it's taking so long to build and distribute these machines is the Covid response. The reason I haven't been able to get in to see a doctor about worrying lung cancer symptoms I've experienced (they've all stopped; but then, my mom had the same thing with the symptoms of the cancer that killed her, so that doesn't mean much) is the Covid response. The decisions to try and stall out the epidemic aren't just kicking the can down the road; they're directly endangering my life. In my position, what would YOUR response be to yet another delay? I can all but guarantee it'd be politer than mine.

Your back and neck hurt like mad, your face gets flush, your brain starts to cook like you dosed up on something Walter White made, you shamble around like a Huntington's patient with car accident trauma, because your cerebellum is too cooked for you to walk competently, relatives yell directions at you of you needing to do this that and the next thing while unable to register that you're too incoherent to process their barking, the boss is panicking because of that week you'll be gone, you begin to question your eternal future, you get mild congestion on par with the beginning stages of bronchitis, anything without a citrus tang begins to taste like garbage (even bacon!), and then you find yourself on the Oregon Trail, trying not to die of dysentery.

Point is, after this, I should have enough antibodies to endure any of a plethora of variants. So the racket can stick their witch's brew needles right up their taints.

We should be thankful here: their greed actually slowed them down. If they wanted to kill more of us faster, and weren't concerned about money, they would've engineered their plague from hantavirus instead.

Spraying villages with mouse turd toxins responsible for Navajo flu would kill entire neighborhoods off faster than the Bubonic Plague!

The CDC recently announced that it was discontinuing the term "fully vaccinated". Now it's "Keep up with your vaccinations." LMAO Gee, who didn't see that coming from a mile away?

I never even got the first jab. I'm not interested in becoming a GMO, trans-human, and having my cells, blood, and entire immune system modified by some new Frankenstein concoction that in no way works like traditional vaccines.

I'm laughing at this omicron variant that has already been acknowledged to be about as deadly as a common cold. But all they have to do is call it "covid" and morons panic. Because everyone knows that it they catch covid, they're gonna die, even when the original variant only had a less than 0.5% overall mortality rate, and most of those were elderly. 🤣🤣🤣

Trying to read as many scientific studies and journals as I can find.
I don't think that Covid is just hysteria but it's sometimes over-emphasized.
Therefore I try to find my own methods to avoid an infection because many people around me are part of the risk group
