Why don’t you think people do not want to give up engaging in tribalism when it comes to politics?

So, by “tribalism in politics,” I mean the “us versus them” mentality, where one adheres to their team’s beliefs, actions, feelings, and emotions no matter how unreasonable or illogical they are.

Moreover, they disdain, fight against, and despise those of the opposite team.

The two main sides I’m talking about are conservatives/republicans and liberals/democrats.

I myself am trying to get better in halting in engaging in tribalism within politics. I try more to reason, follow science, and objectivity.

Although, it can be hard to find those things depending on the topic at hand.

Nowadays it seems as if even “facts” can be altered or contorted by ulterior motives from political forces.

politicians are good at manipulating and exploiting and bringing out the worst in people, tribalism and mob mentality, pride and cognitive dissonance are among the things that these politicians utilize to keep control, i think its worse these days because of social media and the eco chambers, which are HUGE tools for the politicians. we're dealing with people who know very well how to manipulate feelings and emotions, because they know human phycology and they know what people want and desire, then it just comes down to dangling it in their face, i could say much, much more on it but i'll just leave it with this quote. as far as my personal opinion, I think the left is more deceptive and far more despicable, manipulative and dangerous, and at times down right evil but still, I won't side with the right because they are no saints either, and I won't compromise my morals by playing the game of the picking the "lesser of two evils", that's how they get you, wrong is wrong at the end of the day. As soon as people realize this, well all be better off

Because tribalism and ideology is all they are familiar with, and opposition that can challenge their beliefs is seen as a threat regardless of left or right wing. The more entrenched you are, the more hardheaded and unlikely you are to see differences of opinion and cast it as foolish and then be shamed for it.

It didn’t used to be that way. Then the news media, CNN and Fox etc, carved out their portion of an audience. Then they lean that way so that people hear what they want to hear. Then it got worse and it was telling people what to think and believe. Politicians of course also love it as it motivates their base to give them money and to vote for them. We replaced patriotism for being Blue or Red. We need Purple.

Honestly I think most do it because it gives them an outlet. You go to work, you work hard, and you still lose ground. Since people's problems are a system that is rigged against them every really succeeding and not a person. People have not outlet for the rage they feel. Politics give them that outlet. They can put it all on a politician, the party he represents, he can be the blame for all their woes.

Democrats are communists pushing soft totalitarianism at the moment. Regardless of what your political beliefs, if you are a free person then you should be against that. There is no backing down, no giving up, and no negotiating with dictators.

You just provided a example of the tribalism that @EmbraceThePain is talking about. One of the main ways tribalism in politics can manifest itself is people feeling a overwhelming need to call out the other side whenever a topic related to politics is brought up. Even when the side they support isn't being directly talked about or being mentioned simply for clarification.

thats not exactly what tribalism is. maybe modern tribalism but I don't know. left vs right is just the polarizing habits that humans sometimes show. i would call it group think, but not tribalism.
