Why is it that in politics and religion most people are not interested in debate but trying to force the opposition to see their point?

With politics, the persons identity and morals are ingrained with their choices and being forced to change could be viewed as being forced into a psychological self rejection or involuntary mental suicide. With religion, strong belief and devotion to one idea will make a person resistant to ideas that appear to threaten or disagree with the original idea, and some view it as a threat to their coping skills and mental survival to entertain a new idea.

I love this answer, it just gets annoying that some people are so zealous in their beliefs that they think even listening to the other side is forcing them to change at all. It's like how these star wars fan boys are all mad that minority characters are being cast in them which they call "forced diversity." No one is forcing them to watch TV shows and movies with a diversified cast, but I say good luck trying to find an all white cast.

I don't mean you individually, I have heard countless times from conservatives and liberals that they don't like how their opponents don't listen to them yet neither side is willing to give in and concede to listen to what they have to say.

It’s worse than that especially here as most do not even want to see anything in opposition to their opinion. It’s said that people can not think themselves out of a wet paper bag. “Everything is obscene” if it disagrees with what I think.

Because humans are prideful and think with their emotions. They are so thoroughly convinced that they are correct that they are unable to have a reasonable debate with someone who believes differently than they do.
