Like politics or religion... BUT WHY IS THAT? We "claim" that everyone is entitled to their opinion, yet many of us (not all, but many) get so mad and angry when we are challenged
Based on my observations, I've noticed two reasons why I think this happens.
The first being that the people initially presenting their viewpoint do so as if their opinion is an undisputed fact, when it most definitely is not. They aren't looking for a debate; they simply want people to agree with them, and reinforce their opinion. They perceive anything contrary to be an attack against them, personally.
The second is that people who do disagree do so in a manner that is rude, or arrogant. They very rarely say anything to the effect of, "I respect your opinion, but I disagree," and then provide points as to why they believe otherwise. They simply say something along the lines of, "You're dumb, you stupid libtard/fascist/idiot/dumbass," because they don't respect that person's opinions.
Switch the positions around, and the asker would likely respond to a question in the second manner, whereas the other person would likely ask in the first manner. Obviously, that's not conducive to an effective discussion.
Too many people are simply so caught up im being "correct" that they automatically assume that anyone who shares a different viewpoint is wrong, or against them. It's as if we, as a society, have forgotten (or choose to ignore) the difference between fact and opinion, along with common decency.

It is a matter of ego and views that challenge what you believe than can hold credible merit and may be hard to debate. Which is why you see so much generalized views on sections here, just like society and politics. You have one view outside of where they align you become a target or pariah to those who feel the need to "educate you because of your stupidity and ignorance".
I lost count of the fucking chodes that had the audacity to be offended because of an opinion they disagreed with and dehumanized me because of it.

Because people choose to connect their identity to "it", whatever it may be. So when you disagree with "it" they think that you value them less as a person. It also has to do with the splintering of homogeneity in society. We all want to belong. The more groups there are, the less we feel that we belong as "our" group shrinks. And, I think, we want to feel like we have a say. This is particularly acute in government and schools. We don't feel that our voice is getting heard. At the same time, people listen less and we don't teach critical thinking or debate any more which takes us back to people thinking it is a personal attack.
Unlike the past, people are not educated or trained in critical thinking or debate. So they just resort to anger and "choosing" not to discuss.
Most people conflate their feelings with facts, all while remaining willfully and woefully ignorant. If you expect anything other than an emotional response, you’re lowering yourself to their level.
in my case, it is not the most who get angry like this... just a few of them
