God forgives, I don't. Yes I know, holding on to anger only hurts me, I should forgive for me, not those that hurt me. It all makes sense, but I can't do it. I'm 64 years old and STILL HATE people that bullied me in high school. At this point, I won't kill them, but I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire. That's moderation for me.

Depends on what it is, but I generally let things go pretty easily. Worst times are equally only a few days or giving someone the cold shoulder. If it's my partner, then it's usually over within the hour.

Vengeful, no. But that doesn't mean you can get away with insulting my wife or my son. And if you lay a hand on them while I'm nearby, may god have mercy on your soul.

But it's unlikely I'd hunt someone down the way I'd have done 25 years ago.

Almost 99% of time I'm disciplined. Last time I lost it was an eBay fraud transaction for significant money. I had sellers address from shipping and submitted a hold my mail form for him 8 months after transaction. Not my proudest moment.

Okay, just a question. How are you letting things go if you rarely forgive? That was my problem for years. I never forgave and held grudges. so I'm confused by your statement. How can you let things go without forgiving. Forgiving without forgetting is one thing but how do you let things go without forgiving.

@superchan2011 Yes, I can see why you're confused. What I mean is that I don't seek revenge. I usually treat the person or the people who hurt me differently or if it's possible I stop talking to them. I don't do more than that.

Oh okay, now I see. You may not actively seek to hurt others who wronged you but you still change towards them. That's understandable towards some people though. Because some people don't change who they are. So in that case probably the best thing you could do would be to cut them off. But you explained yourself clearly.

you're welcome. I know I may sound a little cynical as the common saying is that everyone can change, and true technically everyone can change. But you gotta sometimes ask yourself how likely will someone change. Especially when you keep seeing the same pattern repeat itself. Sometimes it's really a question of possibility versus probability. i've had to stop talking to a few people in my family because they just wouldn't change and i couldn't keep exposing myself to the toxicity. It's hard but sometimes it has to be done for your own sanity and peace of mind.

I'm just curious, does your family try to guilt you when you try to keep your distance from them? My dad in particular will do that to me. Saying that family is forever and that family will always have your back while everyone will leave you. Or telling me that they wouldn't abandon me. But the thing is i'm not abandoning them by moving away because I always visit and keep up with them over facetime otherwise, but also living with them is too much because there's always big drama that starts over something so little. I can't handle that. It drains my mental health. Is it like that for you too? just curious. I hope I'm not getting too personal.
