If you were homeless and just wanted to rest. Would you sleep in an abandoned home?

At one point in my life. I was homeless and just wanted a shelter to hide, from sleeping in a park under the trees, to sleep next to bridges and rubbish yards. I once begged someone to show me an a abandoned home. And they did just that. It was boarded sealed home with lot of books and clothes and other clutters. I got upstairs, emptied a hall way space in front of a dark room fillted with stuff. With one bottle in one hand and a stick in the other, i just layed there for about good few hours being so tired didn't wake up until next morning.

I've been homeless and have slept any and everywhere I could. I found a semi-abandoned barn that had electricity. The barn was part of a larger property. The lawn was cared for but nobody ever went inside. I spent a year in that barn. Would have been longer if a tornado did not destroy the entrance. Thankfully I had a car and there was a church half a mile away that agreed to let me park my car. The pastor was the only one who knew I stayed out of the barn, but he did not know exactly where it was.

I'd rather stay at the women's shelter, but I suppose staying in a abandon house would be better than on the street somewhere, where I could be attacked. Even though I'm not sure how much rest I would get cause all the little noises would terrify me.

Absolutely, you could live in some of them unnoticed for a long time. Doesn't have to be a wreck either.

Absolutely. I am a larger man with military training so I am very comfortable being in the dark. If I were concerned I would sleep on the second floor near a window that led to a lower roof for escape if needed. I would have a pole which I think is a better weapon than what you had, preferably made of metal. If needed, I would put some items on the stairs that would make noise if someone was coming up. I would also look for a knife in the kitchen or heh, the basement.

That said, I know a girl who was raped while trying to sleep in an empty house.

In Canada it's too cold. I sometimes see homeless people sleeping on the floor beside the bank machines or in a post office where there's heat.
When I used to be a guard sometimes the police would pick up a homeless guy when it was deadly cold out and just let him spend the night in the cells.

It wouldn't be my first choice, but beggars can't be choosers. And if it makes the difference between dying of exposure and living to fight another day, you can bet I'll take it. And hey, odds are whatever's haunting it would be happy to hear some new stories, instead of just more anguished screams.

nah, id buy or steal a tent, then set it behind this hidden area behind my local gas station, jus a secluded path of nice green grass out of the way of everyone,. no one probably even know it exists except me, well safe and cozy, i must be more intelliogent than the hobos who sleep on hard streets, id also steal some big ass thich duvets for cushions lol

I've never been homeless; but being a woman; I'd be scared. However, I would be scared sleeping on the street too. As a homeless woman, I would have to go to a shelter because its not safe for us women.
