It is purely political and it is kind of dumb.

If I go up to you and beat you with a club... that is against the law. That is assault... possibly attempted murder. I can go to jail. Now the placating politicians and "do gooders" want to say well if I'm beating you with a club because of your race or religion... etc. that is worse than just beating you because I am crazy or I hate your guts because you stole my girl or stole money from me or you've been talking sheet about me or you jumped me and beat me up last week... etc.

If you murder someone we are guessing you didn't like that person or had a big issue with them. You probably HATED them. Now they want to add some new title to murder and call it a hate crime. It is ridiculous. Only those in this race bating mindset think "hate crime" is some good thing and makes any difference.

      "You probably HATED them."

I think the point of hate crimes is that you did it not because you hated that particular person as an individual, but just because they belong to a group that you hate.

If Ahmaud Arbery had behaved exactly as he did, but had been white, he'd still be alive today.

When you take the terms literally, the "hate" part seems redundant. Like NSS, if you commit a violent act against someone, it stands to reason that you hate that person.

However, a hate crime, from what I can tell is the same thing but against people of a certain protected class (I know the state will never admit that but based on this criteria, they might as well be). At that point, any possible motivation will be tossed out the window as far as the state is concerned because it will always be replaced with racist, sexist etc reasons and will face a higher sentence as a result.

So remember kids, if you're going to do a violent crime, your target better not be a woman or minority because that makes your crime worse. Because equality I think.

True, but their “protected” with extra consequences because their targeted by the community they’re in.

They are applying a collective solution to an individual issue. If the intent is assumed that the attack happened because of hatred of skin color or the like and not for any other reason, it will only create hysteria that the non "protected" are always hunting the "protected" for who they are when that isn't always true. Maybe that's what the establishment wants.

Crime is crime. When the element of hate is added, it makes it that more disgusting and intolerable.

Do you agree hate crimes should be more “disgusting and intolerable” or are you saying putting some crimes above others is disgusting?

The reality is there is no difference nowadays, it had a purpose back in the 60s and 70s where the democrats would burn crosses and hang black people from a tree, or attack black peoples because they were black.

remember democratic have hated black people and thought they were inferior since the beginning of the United States. The wig party which became the Republican Party always though slavery was wrong

Yeah it is. But like black pride they’re given leeway because of the hundreds of years of slavery thing.

I see it as standup comedy. Like venting. Maybe I’m just more secure in my “whiteness”…

I hate crime is a regular crime with the addition of a thought crime attached to it as a secondary charge.

You’re not wrong. But not sure thought crime conviction in this instance is necessarily wrong. Intent is a big part in the court room.

I hope intent is used only when necessary. Actions should speak for those involved mostly in my opinion.

Premeditated is the difference between murder 1 and murder 2 (if my law and order memory is correct). That’s mostly just proving thought crime. But you have to prove it to a jury which makes it not Orwellian.

I am not too comfortable with premeditated murder being worse in the eyes of the law. I can see exceptions for accidents being necessary, hence third degree murder.

But if somebody murdered my mom, why should them not planning it ahead of time get them a lesser prison sentence?

If anything I can at least respect somebody coming to a decision after a lot of thought. Somebody surrendering to their passions is a lot less respectable to me.

But ultimately it is murder and it certainly was not an accident either way.

They’re both at least life sentences. But I’m way more afraid of someone who plans a murder for months even while talking to the person.

A hate crime is a crime that is committed against protected groups including women, children, minorities, etc. It does not include white men.

Hate crimes don’t protect women in general. In fact sex crimes should probably be as consequential as hate crimes.

Sex crimes committed by men are punished far in excess of the equivalent criminal acts sans sex, i. e., a sexual assault is punished much more heavily than the equivalent felony assault, UNLESS - the perpetrator is a man and the victim a woman.

Sex crimes committed by women are usually punished very lightly or not at all.
