+1 yAny race can be racist towards any group. The literal definition of the word “racist” is:
“prejudiced against or antagonistic towards a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized.“
the “minority” may differ according to different countries. For example, a Caucasian person might be a minority in an South Asian country and might face racism. Or a black person might be a minority in an East Asian country and might face racism. It largely depends. There are a few countries where there is internalized racism within the same group.00 Reply

+1 yBy "racism", so many people mean "discrimination", or "bigotry" which is not at all what the word "racism" actually means.
Bigotry is not racism.
Capitalists have capitalism, Commies have Communism. Racists exist in a system based on racial privilege called race-ism. (Hyphenate for better understanding if necessary).
In order to be a racist, a person of African or Indigenous descent would need to control and benefit as a matter of institutional prerogative: the cops, the courts, the laws, the legislature, the judges, the banks, lending policies, interest rates, real estate zoning committees, tax policy, immigration policy, foreign policy, the Pentagon, the Fed of New York and the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
Absent any of that, anti-caucasian bigots ~can not~ ~in any way~ be termed, coined or characterized in any way as ~a racist.~
I hope this has been informative and/educational for those who may be unclear on the etymology. Further evidence of Race-ism is the demand for the ability to arbitrarily re-define terms of grammar and linguistic definition to serve their own ends and purposes. I believe this to be perfectly clear to anyone who takes time or trouble to consider the issues00 Reply
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yIf you look up "Everything's Gonna Be All White" on YouTube, you'll actually be surprised to know that many of its critics are black. The trailer for it was ratioed to the point where they had to remove the comments section. I wish I had taken screen shots, but I could assure you that many of the top comments critical to the video appeared to have been from a lot of non-whites... and perhaps that's why they disabled it.

Seems like a lot of black people don't think this is OK. Now, to be fair, I haven't seen this documentary, and perhaps many of its critics haven't seen it either, so who knows what the its ACTUAL message is, but the trailer they used to advertise it was clearly meant to start controversy. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if articles start showing up talking about how the documentary "isn't what everyone thought it was," and how wrong people are for hating on it.
And they will most likely blame "triggered" white people, of course.00 Reply

+1 yWell, I mean, it’s not. But I have a lot more understanding of where the disdain comes from than the vice-versa scenario. I’d say the perceived “acceptance” of it is rooted in power dynamics. When white people are hateful of minorities, that can very strongly impact the minorities’ entire life experience in a country. When a person of a locally minority race hates a white person, it kind of ends there, the white person is unaffected in their life experience, unless there’s physical violence or something very targeted. But just a general attitude of “I don’t like those people”, that’s not going to truly affect a white person in a majority-white country beyond hurt feelings. Also, not for nothing, the disdain from minorities is retaliatory to white people’s disdain of them, that’s probably the biggest thing. White people are kind of throwing the first punch in this situation, the minorities are simply hating back. You’d need a few generations of impeccable behavior from white people to really see if the minority races would get carried away with hating white people simply for the sake of hating white people, or what our perceived culture is, which is seemingly most white people’s claimed excuse for their own hatred.

What are you talking about? So white people shouldn't be offended unless there is violence or it's targeted? You do realize that is complete insanity. Racism is racism, doesn't matter what color the persons skin is. It's just deemed ok against whites, because we are the evil ones born with original sin of whiteness. I mean by your rationale black people should hate black people because it was their ancestors who captured and enslaved them in the first place, and south Americans as most slaves went to Brazil. "white people" were and are the only "race" to ban slavery. So on behalf of my white ancestors... you're very welcome.

@jimjim41 I never said you can’t be offended. If a black person didn’t like me just because I’m white, naturally, I’d be offended, too. I’m just saying that historically, at least as far as America goes, white people have been a lot worse to black people and other minority groups, than black people/other minority groups have been to white people. I mean, that’s pretty tough to argue. So with that history and with the current climate, I would get it —not necessarily agree with it or endorse it, but I would get it— if someone had negative feelings towards white people based primarily on a perception that white people didn’t like them and looked down upon them. If you don’t like “racism”, let’s foolproof it and call it “prejudice”, all the ugly parts of racism, minus anyone’s requirement for it to occur on the strong side of a power dynamic. You’re thinking too simply, two seemingly opposing things can be true at the same time. It might be wrong for a black person to ultimately respond by being prejudiced towards white people in general, and simultaneously, there can be reasonable cause in society to lead a person to conclude to having a poor attitude like that.

You seem a little overly fired up when you get into “original sin of whiteness”…. I’ve literally never heard that idea spoken of except by white people, unless it’s some extremist who probably doesn’t represent the views of the average black person, like a Louis Farrakhan lmao. It’s like any critique is too much for some white folks and they’re lashing out in desperation. We’re gonna be fine, man. No one is coming for us lmfao. Any minority person who aims to stand on your neck is a crazy asshole, I think if you asked most people they’d just tell you they want to live a normal life without anyone fucking with them or holding them back based on what they look like or what someone else perceives their culture to be. That’s really not asking a lot. And I’m sorry, man, but as much as I appreciate The Emancipation Proclamation’s improvements, I’m just not going to give a society credit for NOT having slavery. By that measure, we should big up the current German government for not having another Holocaust, lmfao.

So you're upset with Africans in general then for their role in slavery? How about middle easterners, sub-continent, east Asians? You're not going to give them a pass either? So the only people who get a pass are the direct descendants of slaves? So ignore all of human history and cultures that have had slavery, and focus purely on the white culture (and give zero credit) who ended slavery in their society? I'm not fired up about anything, but I refuse to accept that being white makes one guilty of anything, and the idea of holding someone accountable for their ancestors crimes is ridiculous.
But go ahead, kneel, cry, apologize for your ancestors crimes... maybe your great great grandparents were one of the 1.5% - 5% of the population who did own slaves... but keep going and blaming all white people for past crimes and injustices of those long dead - +1 y
@jimjim41 Broadly, yes. Obviously, I wouldn’t support anyone engaging in slavery. But I live in America. HERE, white people did that. If they were captured and/or sold by someone else, they’re complicit too. You’re taking it all wrong, man, it’s not about assigning blame, it’s about acknowledgement and, more importantly, UNDERSTANDING HOW that still impacts dynamics in the country today. Can you find some loonies out there who are extremist about it and want white people to grovel at black people’s feet? Yes, of course you can, and not for nothing, that’s the guy or gal they’ll highlight on conservative news outlets lmao. Also, you act like slavery ended and that was just the end of any and all problems. Black people were segregated for like another hundred years. If they invented cellphones the same day slaves were freed, and both progressed at the same rate we’ve had proven by history (so basically 100 years removed from the simultaneous advents of mobile phone technology and a post-slavery society, black folks would be where they are today, and we could probably fly ourselves to fucking Saturn with our phones. There’s clearly a priority for the progress in one arena, the other, not so rapid. And that simply comes down to “want to” from people. People clearly don’t want equality enough, at least in terms of individuals’ attitudes, otherwise we’d have already made it happen. Nobody same wants us to feel guilty, they’re asking us to stop and listen and try to understand their hardships, AND TAKE THEM ON THEIR WORD, not dismiss it as a victim mentality or some other horseshit cop-out, and most of all, drop this overall attitude in America that nothing can happen unless the white people OK it. America is a very diverse country, not a white country, and that’s not a bad thing, so we should make the necessary adjustments to be accommodating to everyone here.
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yThe black community as a whole has been really brainwashed and the ones who should be getting the blame do not and that is white liberals. They have segregated the black community on purpose. They have manipulated Black people to think the very same people (white Republicans) who fought a civil war and 100 years of legislation for them to be recognized as citizens and the right to vote, are the ones holding them down. In reality, it is Democrats that are the ones that have been holding them back since the late 1700’s.

Asker+1 yBut they're NOT your former slaver. That was way before you or they were born. You can't blame someone for something their ancestors did. If that were the case, we would all be hated because somewhere down the line, someone in your family (and my family) was probably a murder or a slaver.
