So paying them for oil will stop just not as timely as people like. It's not like amazon and canceling an order. These are targetable oil tankers mid transit and its better to have all your ducks in a row before you make these sweeping sanction moves.

And buying and selling is still trade. The majority oil trade is with Canada just over 50% our total. Russia is like 7% our total. So we can slap around Canada about 50% as hard as we need to but we are buddy buddy so we dont have to.

Russia we traded at 7% we can only slap them around at 7% of our power. If we had a monopoly on buying a country's oil we could slap them around 100% of our power. This is the short idiots guide on the long and complicated posturing of soft geopolitical power as a global world power.
