Why, without solid scientific justification, has the number of mental disorders risen from 106 in the 1960s, to around 370 today?

My theory: All of a sudden, more mental disorders come outwhen society becomes more liberal and accepting, and more kids with disabilities and neurological conditions and mental disorders are gaslighted by a school system thatclaims to be all inclusive and kids who get bullied can no longer stick up for themself and toxic social values or forced on kids, young adults and even older adultsby the system.

ODD is the greatest example of this. If you dont fall in line or agree with toxic school rules, you are diagnosed as ODD and are forced to take medication. If your a normal hyperactive teenage boy with hormones, you have ADHD. Keep in mind I HAVE ADHD myself so im not tying to say it isn't real

There is solid scientific justification and evidence to back it up. One thing you have to understand is that denial of mental disorders is not something new. Also we have a very long history of denying it and taking drastic action to bury it. It's not just mental disorders as well. Looking at human history you can see many instances where people will deny, deny and take drastic action to ensure mass denial is kept in tact. Unfortunately how people interact with sciences has been ground zero for a lot of it. If anything the more evidence and justification is presented in science becomes more of a target to ensure mass denial is kept in tact.

Also as sad as it is denial can be very comforting to people. So comforting that people do not want to leave. So comforting that people will fight anyone that tries to pull them out of it. You can take it as far as looking at it as an addiction. You could have scientists around the world warning us that we have two days before a planet killing asteroid hits earth and some people will simply fall into comforting denial. More so if a politician on their chosen side of the isle said they have nothing to worry about. Some might stay in a state of denial as the asteroid makes land fall.

I dont have a desire to deny mental illness and im sure a lot of them are real I just think there to judgy right now and judge things as mental disorder when there not

Sure you can say the brain is doing this but I can look into your brain and see something wrong in it to like everyoen has a brain pattern or doing something bad

They are the same disorders that have always existed. What happened is we came up with names for them. Keep in mind psychology is a newer field of science than quantum mechanics, at least in terms of when it started being take seriously. But naming things doesn't call them into existence.

Granted, there probably is a fair amount of "job security" involved in the diagnosis from psychologists. I don't know how much of what they say is objective versus how much is embellished to keep them coming back, but I can say I have never met a psychologist that I would say is definitely liberal. Most were apolitical or closet conservatives.

Better education in the field. Sure, some might be getting misdiagnosed, but honestly back then moat people were forced to suffer in silence and now we have less of a stigma on mental health issues that people can relate their problems easier.

Not necessarily more (though there is some), more like better diagnosis. I mean think about where we started with women where everything was labeled as hysteria thanks to the uterus. We obviously know more now. Same general idea applies from the 60s to today.

But women will be judged as being "mentally ill" more so now ifthere a traditional or non left. Contemporary psychology seems to be both for and against leftist politics in toxic ways. Seems to serve some sort of agenda. Claling good ideas crazy or mentally ill and stifilng the autsitic population

Doubtful, but had you taken a more financial approach where it was more based around medication sales and payoffs to doctors increasing the number of diagnosis I probably would have bought in.

My take is that it isn't that this isn't a left/right thing in the sense of stifling ideas as much as it is acceptance.

Conservatives tend to still harbor the "suck it up" mentality and not embrace mental health issues as openly as the left.

Social values, while fluid, are still are the baseline of acceptance.

Morality is also fluid. For example, your morals may say monogamy is the only correct path while mine is as long as everyone is consenting and not hurting one another, then monogamy isn't required.

A lot has to do with all the drugs people used in the 60s and 70s. LSD and other brain altering drugs have caused a lot of these disorders as well as the effect on the unborn. It is no coincidence that autism has spiked over the last 30 years.

Maybe learning more about how science progresses would help. Proving other scientists wrong or coming up with a miracle vax is how you get wealth and fame. And the results have to be verified by peer review. So there isn’t an “authority” who make judgements. It’s experts judging experts.
