Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yI honestly don’t think the wealthy should pay more in taxes just because they make more. I get that some of them may have I jetties their money, but there are a lot of others who worked their tails off to get where they are now. There’s nothing that says you can’t do the same. The sad thing is a lot of us at the “lower” level don’t know how to make money work for us. It doesn’t matter if you were making millions a year most of us would be just as broke because most of us tend to spend money when we get it on things we don’t need. Honestly if you were a millionaire would you be willing to pay have yourself annual income in taxes? I don’t agree w it. Just like I don’t agree w people who are single w no children having to pay more in taxes as opposed to someone who is married w a potential second income combined w their spouse. I get they have kids, so a little more expenses to pay for but again two incontestable more than likely. Many of us go to school, meet someone, have kids then try to go to school and get married. Much easier if you did the opposite. Went to school, dates, marriage then kids after establishing yourselves. There’s a lot of ways to itemize your deductions, to lower your tax bracket. You just have to learn how.

Anonymous(18-24)+1 yWell, think about their perspective. How would you feel paying over 30% in federal income tax and funding wasteful programs with your hard-earned money? When you was young, you worked long hours to build your business (or career), made sacrifices, and worked 80, 100 hour weeks. You sacrificed so much while the average person was partying and having fun. You took risks and put in hard effort. 20-30 years later, you made it. There are many people like you that became wealthy by their own hard work. How would you feel if you are forced to give a third of your hard earned money to support corrupt politicians and lazy bums that live on welfare?
Now everyone feels the top 10% pays little to no taxes and they use everything to lower the amount of taxes they pay. But it absolutely makes sense for them to try to lower the amount of taxes they pay. People who try to save lower the amount of expenses they have, and tax is another form of expense. Anyone in their shoes will do the same.
To lower taxes, they hire a tax lawyer of some sorts, donate to charity, add business expenses, investments, itemize deductions and etc. But they still pay more taxes than the average.
And it should be known that the top 10% are not rich, millionaires or 7 figures are not rich, they are well-off.
Most of the people that say the rich are unfair when actually they are the ones that are unfair. They do not care about equalness, rather they are jealous that others are doing better than them and think "I am unhappy and broke. I cannot stand anyone being successful so let's drag them to my level. Then we feel equally miserable."10 Reply

Where are your numbers from?
I think your 70% number is backward. Everything I'm finding says the top 10% are paying 71% of all Federal Taxes and the bottom 50% pay less than 4% of the total.50 Reply

+1 yBecause rich people got rich by gaming the system. The only difference that would happen if they paid their required share (without using all the loopholes available) is they would be slightly less rich (still more than they require to live a comfortable life) but everyone else would have healthcare, public transport, maintained infrastructure, fully funded police and fire services and a decent public education system.
The other option, if they don't want to pay taxes that help everyone, would be to get paid less and pay their staff more, so their staff can afford to privately take care of the above.
I think we all know the chances of either of those scenarios happening voluntarily.10 ReplyTax shelters.
At a certain level the money they generate isn't salary. It's under different classification. Like if a CEO who starts his company all the revenue generated goes to paying employees, paying for the business expenses and then he decides what portion leftover is his personal income and will pay standard income tax on that.
The rest usually goes towards reserves, investing back into the business for marketing, R&D depending on the industry and so on. All tax write offs.
Even if you take your income make from a standard W2 job if you buy real estate you can write that off on your taxes. There's a lot of tax laws in the favor of those who spend money on things considered good for the economy10 Reply6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Congress does the bidding of those with the most money.
There was a 90+% "marginal" income tax rate from 1944-1963.
Look up how marginal income tax works.
It encouraged high income earners to get tax write offs by reinvesting their income instead of hording it.
America experienced it's most prosperous period. It didn't stop people from pursuing wealth. It didn't prevent people from becoming wealthy. It actually led to more jobs, greater innovation, competition and prosperity.00 Reply

+1 yBecause an income tax will never make sense. It should be a sales tax. People buying fancy cars and luxury items along with just lots of other stuff should be paying out the ass for consumption. Those that SAVE so they dont need help on the low end will be rewarded with no tax on their savings. Those who are rich will then USE their savings to invest in things (this will make the most jobs) whereas right now wealthy are forced to blow savings sometimes on nonsense to save on taxes. Ie would you rather pay 1 million in taxes or pay 2 million to buy a yacht for "business purposes" (just a dumb basic example)

+1 yIt all started during the Reagan era where the goal was set motion to cut the super rich tax rate mucher lower which they claim will "trickle down" to the working Joe and Jane but in reality it just created a unprecedented wealth gap in the country.
Secondly, mega rich corporations own American politics and politicians as they are the ones who mainly fund their political campaigns so in return the politicians bend the knee to their will and leave taxes low as possible for them.11 Reply No one is forcing you to give them your money. If you don't like the fact that they are earning large portions of money, then stop giving them your money... Spend your money in your local economy and invest in local manufacturing.

You probably spend the bulk of your disposable income on shit you don't even need. You just watch the boob tube and get brainwashed into buying shit to fit in. If you stopped being such a brainwashed muppet, you could build up your local economy and bring up your entire community. Less wealth wood leave to large corporations and quality of life would go up for all your neighbors.

You could save up and buy some farm land rather than spending your money on things like that smart phone sitting right next to you, that big screen TV you enjoy watching, that NetFlix subscription, that new sports car, or that new brand name piece of clothing you had your eye on. You could produce something on that farmland like food that could feed your community or timber that could be milled into building materials, furniture, or even toilet paper. The more you spend your money in and on your community, the more your money that stays local and employs local people rather than sending the profits to some HQ in some other state for the big wigs to swim in. You can export products to other locations an impact global markets… If you raise taxes, all you do is put more money in government coffers for the wealthiest among us to lobby for. The higher the taxes, the more the wealthy get to control in government contracts and embezzlement of foreign aid. They will always out lobby you because they have more money to spend on lobbying government. The lower the taxes, the more disposable income average people have to spend in their own community which creates opportunity for entrepreneurs to invest in their own neck of the woods. Stop buying products from large companies, and start spending with small ones that employ people where you live. It's pretty fucking simple. The more you centralize the economy, the more central authoritarian powers will control. The more you decentralize it, the more power the people have.
Anonymous(30-35)+1 y“Less than 70 percent”
You mean a small minority of people paying the *majority* of taxes isn’t good enough? When you’re taxes at 50% is that greedy to want to keep a mere half of what you earn? So we should raise taxes on them? And then what? If keeping half of what you earn is greedy then what does that mean for the government when they bump it up to 60% or more? Isn’t it the government being greedy then?00 Reply1.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Everyone should pay the same tax rate. Before you go judging me, I require $8000 worth of medicine every month, which I can't possibly be expected to earn enough money to pay for that on my own, so without social security, medicaid, and medicare, I would have died some time in 2012 when the symptoms were at their worst.

And it was like that non-stop day and night forever.

I do understand how much wealth the rich have. So what? They're allowed to be rich. If I want wealth, it is my responsibility to go get it. If I can't do that, then that is my failure. The same applies to every person on the planet. And taxing the rich is not wealth redistribution. It's just transferring the money from one rich group, the corporate elite, to another, the political elite. YOU WON'T SEE A DIME OF THAT MONEY. Whatever your medical problems, my points all still stand.

You must be a Marxist trying to foment hate as you are.04 Reply- +1 y
It's not possible to become a billionaire by honest means. Billionaires are rich because they monopolize industries and then rip everyone else off.
I don't know why Republican so-called "Christians" are so pro-billionaire. Jesus of Nazareth said, "how hardly shall they who have riches enter into the Kingdom of Heaven It is harder for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven than it is for a Camel to pass through the eye of a needle."
Jesus of Nazareth also said, "Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's and to God the things which are Gods."
The old testament commands rich people to pay roughly 40% in tithes to the temple and the poor people out of their annual income by the time you add up all of the tithing laws which apply to the Rich. So why don't millionaire and billionaire Republican "christians" give 40% of their money to the poor? Why do they complain about taxes when they pay a lower marginal rate than poor and middle class people? The "Christians" in the United States are complete hypocrites, they don't obey ANYTHING their own God commanded them to obey. Nothing. - +1 y
Wow!!! You really are a Marxist!!! Why are you so hateful? The Tenth Commandment says that you shall not covet Anything that is your neighbors.
If you were a Christian, you would celebrate your neighbor's success, Not hate him for it!!
I do not know about Billionaires, and I doubt that you know anything about them either. The Facts are that new wealth is created every day. There are more Millionaires today from new wealth than form old money. New Millionaires are being made every day.
You need to turn to Jesus Christ and let him into your heart. Jesus will wash away the hate that is in your heart and make a new person out of you. - +1 y
lol. Jesus told the Pharisees to pay both Tithe and Offerings and pay taxes to Caesar.
The tithing laws in the Old Testament require over 40% of their income to the TEMPLE and to the poor, the orphan, and the widow, if you've ever actually read that, and Caesar had a progressive tax too.
"Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesars and to God the things which are God's." - Jesus of Nazareth.
"He who robs from the poor and he who gives to the rich shall both come to poverty." - Solomon.
Millionaires and Billionaires make their money by price gouging. We have laws on the books banning monopolies for that reason, but they never get enforced lately.
The Year of Jubilee in the Old Testament was an anti-monopoly law. Every 50 years all of the land was divided equally amongst all of the males above 12 years old in order to prevent a rich family from gaining a monopoly.
Jesus and Moses were very much communists, and the Early Christians were Communists, and it even says so in the Book of Acts.
You need to READ THE BIBLE, because you've clearly never read the thing. - +1 y
Satan was good at cherry picking verses out of the Bible too. You have only shown that you are one of Satan's Thralls.
New Millionaires are made every day. New money is made every day. Why is your heart so full of hate? Why do you live on the dark side of Human Nature. Let Jesus into your heart and he will sweep away the darkness in your heart and all of the hate and rage.
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yBecause the progressive tax system isn't designed to screw the rich as advertised. It is designed to screw people from becoming richer. The only fair tax is a flat tax.
12 Reply- +1 y
The lower 80% of people have only TEN PERCENT of the income or less. A flat tax would not lower tax rates on the rich, but would ENSLAVE poor people even worse than they already are enslaved.
Poor people and even middle class people usually cannot itemize deductions because they don't qualify, so they pay the full tax rate most of the time. If you had a flat tax, everyone would pay 30 to 40% marginal rate anyway, and there would be no deductions. It would enslave the lower 80% of wage earners.
I know how this works, because I worked as a tax preparer for several years. I was the best tax pro in the office at the time I quit. I quit because I got sick of how many people commit obvious tax frauds.
Opinion Owner+1 yTax rates don't have to 30-40%; they should be 5% or less. A progressive tax rate punishes people for working hard. I have a job that is dependent upon how much work we get day to day. So sometimes we work short days and other times we work long days. When I was working 30 hours a week, my net pay wasn't much lower than my net pay was when I was working 50 hours a week; even though my gross was almost double. As I moved up from one tax bracket to the next. A flat tax would necessarily have no deductions; which are inherently designed to help the rich. As they have more things to deduct.
