I'm not ashamed that my ancestors came here from Ireland in 1850. I'm not ashamed of being Irish or living in the USA.

I do understand how horribly Native Americans were treated by European colonists. But my family had no part in it and few people alive today did, either. That being said, Native Americans are still treated like shit by this government. There's a lot about my government that disgusts me.

I love my Native American brothers and sisters. I work to bring them justice and helped our local tribe in their effort to achieve federal recognition. I've participated in their events and ceremonies and the tribal Chair honored me as one of their elders.

Actually, we now know that the tribes that were in North America immigrated from a land bridge from Asia and probably killed the population that was already here who had traveled from Europe during the ice ages. So, Europeans arriving was actually just social justice and North America being returned to the people who were here first.

It’s also the same story in most other parts of the world. Throughout history people fought with other tribes and other nations over land and resources. Native American tribes fought each other for territory too.
