If you have them, do you feel ashamed of your self harm scars?

I have old scars (5+ years), cut again this January and I cover them, I'm not afraid of people finding out what I did, I'm just ashamed, I'd never felt ashamed about this before.

Here the rules vary widely for men and women. If a man had self-harm scars, I'd advise him to either cover them up, get them treated and lightened with ointment, but first get his issues addressed with a therapist. And if they are discovered and someone asks, say that he was either attacked, injured but never that he did that to himself. The moment you disclose that you have mental issues (which is totally fine by the way) you lose reliability as a man. You will only get superficial sympathy but the loss in trust would be real. So get therapy and be strong.
