If all of the actual existing variations of gender and sexuality were permitted to be as they are without having to fear persecution, violence, death, humiliation, denigration, incarceration, that would alleviate a lot of misery in the world.
The almost pathological fear of any deviation from conservative binary social role mental imprisonment is just as ugly as any other kind of fascism.
And what's the emphasis on women in your question? If all of the conservative hypocrites who've been busted for secret same-sex affairs had just come out, in the first place, that would have made it easier for all concerned to face facts and get on with their lives in a non-deceitful manner. These stupid rigid definitions of gender and sexuality are obviously insufficient and definitely lacking in any sort of authoritative validity, and are forcibly maintained only by harassment and bullying on the part of individuals, communities and even governments. For what? What's gained by that? So the homophobes who can't get their hatred under control can pretend that they are right. They're not.
