Do you care about the feelings of other GaG users?

Both offline and online I will always be nice to the people who are nice to me.  I don’t care about the feelings of people who don’t treat me well.

I think all people deserve a basic level of respect by default, and I behave accordingly. I generally avoid personal attacks and I mostly stick to generalizations, and allow for exceptions.

Having said that, I don't concern myself too much about hurting someone's feelings when I am discussing issues of the day. I'm aware that some people get triggered if they read or hear something that goes against their narrative, but I come with evidence and I'm making generalizations, not personal attacks. I can't worry about people who take everything personally or who have been told comforting lies that they don't want dispelled.

A percentage of the population just isn't used to having their ideas challenged or having to defend them, but when they want to push those ideas onto others, those ideas NEED to be challenged, and bad ideas need to be shot down before they do greater harm.

A year ago, a number of cities listened to activists who demanded that they "defund the police", and they refused to listen to the other side of the argument. The result? Crime, and especially violent crime, skyrocketed in those cities, tens of thousands of businesses were destroyed, and many big companies pulled out and won't return, leaving many areas unserved. Who suffers most? The very people the defunders claimed to be helping. That was exactly what the other side said would happen.

Even though they have all reversed the policy, no one wants to work for a city that doesn't support them, so despite lowering standards and raising salaries, they are hundreds of officers short, so they have to ignore everything but the most serious crimes, meaning that regular people in those cities will continue to suffer higher crimes and lower property values, making it harder to leave if they want to.

This is why bad ideas need to be challenged
These flippant political decisions will harm these cities for at least a decade, even though they are were mostly in place only 3-6 months. And it's why you can't worry about everyone's feelings. Do you think any of the Defund activists have acknowledged their mistake? Have any apologized? Nope. They just pretend they weren't involved and they move on and let others suffer for the activists' actions.

You have to take it for what it is. There are always going to be people that hide behind a computer or phone and have nothing better to do but try and get a reaction by saying the dumbest things. Ignore and don't engage with them or your giving them what they want. Don't feed the beasts

Sure, I try to choose my words carefully because I would never want to intentionally hurt anyone's feelings. If I have dished it out ever, it's usually to users who I know can handle it because they've dished it out themselves, lol or if what they've stated is completely disrespectful I might lose my temper a bit but I try not to if I can avoid it. It's harder when replying to anons of course but I joined this forum to chat with others and engage in healthy debate, so I try to be polite as much as possible.

I care about the truth. If I can see through your question, to the real person, as I usually can, then I'll just jump straight to the heart of the matter. Oftentimes, that means I won't spare any feelings. The truth is ugly. If you're clearly in need of mental help, or you're a narcissist, trying to justify your own ignorance, I will let you know. Who's going to stop me?

I feel the same way you do. I'm a nice person and enjoy raising people up. I do that on GAG and in person.  But I'm not nice to people who are mean.
