Arthur Wellesley, the first Duke of Wellington.

He began his career in India, but I know very little about that. Victor of the Peninsular Campaign against the French during the Napoleonic Wars. Brilliant strategist and tactician. Tended to prefer to fight defensively. Even on the offense, he would gode his opponent into attacking him in defensive positions (which worked well at Waterloo). He didn't invent it, but was a strong advocate of a line formation which could keep up a murderous rate of fire, generally able to achieve 3 aimed shots to the French's 2. He only faced Napoleon in direct battle once, at Waterloo. Together with Blucher he defeated Bonaparte and this sent Napoleon into final exile on St. Helena. After the Napoleonic Wars, a grateful Tory party made him Prime Minister of England. I don't know much about his tenure as Prime Minister.

I saw his monument in London when I was a boy.

That picture is the first time I've seen an actual photograph of him.

Certainly Wellington was an intelligent man, and a good politician. He will prevent the Prussians, for example, from ransacking Paris.

Do you know that he admired Napoleon. In his house he had several paintings and a large statue of Napoleon

Yeah, he was an English general that beat Napoleon in the battle of Waterloo, in 1815. As a general, he was renowned for his defensive skills. His battle plans and strategies are still studied even today
Other than that, I don't know anything else. There's a traditional English recipe, Wellington beef that's named after him and New Zealand's capital is also named after him
