What do French people think about immigrants?

Not asking about low-skilled ones, but about teachers, developers, medical personnel?
Especially if they make an effort to learn the language.
Are they welcomed or foreigners should only go to France for a holiday and not take French jobs?
I'm just asking this after the election results where the right had quite a significant percent of the votes.
