No. It's primarily true for Europeans and those who have been influenced by Europeans. Not that people from other parts of the world weren't fascinated by the sight of people with fair skin and light-colored hair.

Realistic portraiture probably began in 15th century Europe. Images of scenes from Greek and Roman mythology, as well as portraits, were of white women. Those paintings are still revered to this day. So, for centuries, we have examples of white women as the ideal of beauty. Even paintings portraying Cleopatra and women from the Bible portrayed them as white.

That continued with the technology for photography and motion pictures because, again, those were dominated almost exclusively by the west. Advertising of beauty products in magazines, on billboards, and on TV also portrayed white women almost exclusively for years.

Also, western colonials always denigrated people from other parts of the world and their ideals even rubbed off on colonized people.

There was even a caste system in parts of world like ancient India, in which the white Arians/Brahmans were seen as superior. But did the Chinese, Japanese, other "Orientals", or Africans think the standard of beauty was European? Definitely not.

Are there amazingly beautiful African and "Oriental" women. Absolutely!

But it must be said that "... there is a cross-cultural agreement concerning preferences regarding facial skin coloration. Lighter-skinned women are perceived as more attractive than darker-skinned women are within a given population." It seems to be an aspect of sexual dimorphism.

At the same time, nobody claims that Mediterranean skin is unattractive. And what about Pacific Islanders? Many white men see beautiful women with dark skin as exotic and ultra sexy. And the same is true with "Oriental" features.

Over time, with more frequent contact with people around the world, I think the perception that white European women are the standard of beauty has diminished, although people will always have their personal preferences.

It's really simple and there's nothing controversial about it.

The vast majority of people prefer men and women of their own race. It doesn't matter if you're white, black, Asian or whatever else.

Now, we're talking about the western world that's been created and is still dominated by white people. So of course in white majority countries white women will be considered more attractive... or rather, they will appeal to majority of people.

But if you go say to Asia, they won't care about white women at all. Their society's standard of beauty will be Asian.

And to answer your last question - women of every ethnicity can be beautiful but they will not necessarily be everyone's cup of tea. There are those who specifically prefer men or women of a particular race that's different from their own but it's still a minority, most people find attractive people who look like them. Ie are of the same race.

Every continent has their beauty standard. Only insecure women will think otherwise and insecure women shape the world of cosmetics, which is a business, that will build upon that insecurity.
I do thinkfor example, that, black women, without a wig, being natural are really beautiful. One example.

I'm not even sure what standard of beauty means. Just seems to be another one those terms that's thrown around in their community to feed their victim mentality. That said, of course white people find white women beautiful. There are some Asian cultures that imitate white women as well. If you look at black women that are used as models or actresses, they are typically mixed black/white women. Maybe that's what they are angry about? But hey, I hate Hollywood and advertising too so don't act like it magically benefits me somehow.

The primary and universal characteristics of beauty in women are bilateral symmetry, a small waist to hip ratio, a youthful appearance, and smooth clear skin. Some women of all races and colors have those characteristics, although, not necessarily the same percentages. Another factor that are important to men is femininity. On average Asians are the most feminine. And, since typically they are bigger and heavier, blacks are the least feminine, and whites are in between.

Perhaps, greater intelligence which favors Asians and white is a factor. However, that is at least partly offset since blacks are more athletic and most athletic girls are beautiful.

No, anyone who obsessed that much over race is stupid. There's no such thing as the most beautiful race/nationality/ethnicity, there literally isn't. Just as there are Asians more attractive than some White women and White women more attractive than some Asians and so on.

A lot of beauty and cosmetics firms are from predominantly White countries, so most of their marketing and product is going to be aimed at such.

But if you go to other places you'll find the beauty standards are very different

I kinda feel like Latin women have been gaining popularity with American beauty standards lately. I think their are beautiful women in every race as well as ugly but I think that white beauty used to be thought of in the way it has been because typically white women were the majority population as well as the ones with money so magazines and marketing would gear towards them.
