Opinion on Sweden and Finland applying to join NATO in response to Russia Ukraine war?

In my opinion some blame must be put in western leaders and western alliances encroaching on Moscow as a huge reason for this war.
Finland and Sweden joining in the middle of all this is an escalation.
I’m not saying Russia is the good guys, I had more sympathy in the beginning but lost most of since the bombing of the children hospital a few weeks in.
I just think we should really understand why this is happening and what can be done to end it before the nukes leave the silos.

I think Russia and the West need to reconcile our differences.
I think a sort of Pan European military organization should exist but not specifically against Russia; I think it should include Russia as well as Western Europe and North American against China or any other potential threat.
Right now Russia is moving closer towards China and to a lesser extent India and Iran.

It was always on the cards.

The Swedes especially were fairly fed up with the Russians fucking around in the Baltic etc.
There is a reason they militarised Gotland so much.

If you look at the number of QRA launches weekly even daily from Norway to UK etc on Russian aircraft pushing restricted air space.

Also there was a lot of military cooperation going on with Sweden already.
Thats part of the reason the UK out a separate treaty in with Sweden before they join NATO.

Also a lot of Americans do not follow what’s been happening in Europe before Russia invaded Ukraine, like everything else they Politicise it, something that does not really happen here.

Its a big signal to Putin and his next steps after Ukraine.

There are more and more comments within Russia on the invasion failing or not going to plan, their equipment has been found lacking.

They have looked at the likes of Afghan and assumed that’s how wars are fought but failed to remember wars in Europe are different.

I disagree with your initial statement. The only worry you should have about your neighbours forming a defensive alliance is if you want to invade them. Especially if you're supposedly in the club, like Russia as part of the NATO "Partnership for Peace". Of course, if you would form an alliance with other countries (Belarus) if you wanted to invade your neighbours you might feel endangered, even if you aren't.

Finland and Sweden (as is Ukraine) are "Enhanced Opportunities Partners" of NATO, but the invasion of Ukraine has proven that that means they're on their own (apart from they don't have to produce their own arms). Until the invasion, they (democracies, and with the support of their citizens) weren't interested in joining; now they are. This is how democracy works.

I agree that it was a mistake for the United States to commit to go to war under Article V by agreeing to the accession to NATO of more and more countries on Russia's doorstep. Before there is any talk of enlarging NATO the alliance needs to get its act together. Only a handful of the 30 or so members meet their defense spending obligations by spending at least 2% of GDP on defense. I think it was a mistake to even consider making Ukraine part of the alliance.
It is in everyone's best interests to negotiate an end to this current war as soon as possible.

No one encroached on Russian territory. Russia invaded Georgia and annexed territory. Russia invaded Ukraine and annexed territory.

Maybe the other nations in area do not want Russia to invade them and annex territory.

And I would just say, when Switzerland is so committed to neutrality that it would stay out of WWII, yet enact sanctions against Russia. . . perhaps it has become pretty plain that Russia is the aggressor and not the victim.

Well, Russia proposed exactly that two decades ago. How did the West respond?

NATO has always been the anti-Russia club. They have always been an existential threat to Russia. The perpetual NATO expansion, coupled with Zelensky's own remarks in Germany about dismissing the Budapest Memorandum, made it clear that the West intended to install first-strike strategic nuclear infrastructure in the Ukraine.

Russia's invasion is 100% justified, and they have apparently made some kind of deal with Turkey to block Sweden & Finland from joining the hostile Western nuclear alliance. I think NATO'S days are numbered and they are simply looking to sacrifice as many Eastern & Northern Europeans as they can in a desperate bid to buy time. The Anglo-American Atlanticist Empire and their zionist ruling class would doom all of humanity to save themselves.

I think we would agree.
When I say I want a pan European alliance I mean I want such an alliance after the current western leaders are swept from power.
I hate western leaders such as Biden, Macron, Trudeau and Johnson far more then I could hate Putin.
As well as the people pulling the strings which you mentioned.

I am for putting this east west divide behind us.
I recognize Russia as an integral part of European civilization.
I believe we could stand together and defeat those who think they lord over us, or we can squabble with one another and eventually lose everything.

Western governments are the problem, not Russia. Western governments are the ones who have to go, not Russia or China or Iran's government. Chiefly, the United States.

If the Ukraine doesn't want to listen to reason, and can't be trusted not to invite NATO in, and American nukes, then the Ukraine must be de-nazified, de-clawed, de-militarized, maybe even partitioned.

The line must be drawn & enforced somewhere.

There is no encroachment on Russia- that is the BS Putin pushes to try to justify his invasions, spying, economic pressure, Milosevic-style use of Russian minorities, and other attempts to reconstitute the Soviet Union.

Finland has also been invaded by the Russians (read up on the Winter War), so you can hardly blame them for wanting protection after seeing Putin invade Georgia and Ukraine twice. Plus, don't forget the invasions by the Soviets of Czechoslovakia in 1968 and Hungary in 1956, both of which are very relevant to contemporary events.

Now, NATO is BS because it's 90% US and therefore a bad deal for US taxpayers, but that is a topic for another day.

Most of Ukraine citizens had already left before the childrens hospital thing. It was a strategic military base. Russia will soon win this “war” and everything will settle back. Ukraine was corrupt long ago. Government is taking opportunity of tremendous spending of this war as an excuse. Nobody knows where the money goes. Donations are all scams. Most of it is lining government and charity pockets. Russia will install their own puppet soon and Ukrainians will move back in.
