Guys, What do you think about Biden invoking the Defense Production Act, 'Operation Fly Formula' to address shortage?

I'm all in favor of the babies getting their formula, but it's strange to me how it's OK to use our military to fly in the formula, but it's not OK to use the military to secure our own border. And why didn't we use the military to unload all those cargo ships sitting off the coast? And why do we have 30,000 American troops guarding the border between North and South Korea? And why are American troops in Ukraine?

I think that Americans are furious that a country that can send a spacecraft to Pluto, can't provide baby formula. And because of this fury, and the November elections on the horizon, that's what this is all about.

The military should not be mobilized inside the US, national guard, sure, but except for training exercises it's a bad precedent. We don't need the military to produce more baby formula. You can buy it from the EU. This is 100% an FDA fuck-up that's shutting down the very few US industries that paid enough money to remain the few that can produce formula in the US, another bureaucratic fuck-up on top.

There's no shortage of the ingredients, or other companies that would love to break into the industry, we just have so much regulation that opening a legitimate business is an almost futile endeavor past the state level.

Anyway, on an individual level, people can still order formula from the EU, who has more strict requirements than the FDA, we just have to make it legal so shipments don't get seized at customs. You can still order anyway. Fear, chest beating, and this bullshit add to the confusion.

The military doesn't produce baby formula, why the hell would you hand this mission to them?

Here’s the thing. Government regulations keep the number of formula producers to a minimum. Abbot’s making a killing on covid tests so there’s less of an incentive to sell formula, and the FDA has drug its heels on reopening their plant. This is a problem WHOLLY caused by government and now we have to pay to fix it.
