Why don't we pick a day to not buy any gas for that day and watch the gas companies panic and drop the prices we need to have everyone on it?

That happened recently. March April 2020. The months people cared about covid19. A barrel of oil was worth negative dollars because no one could store it.

1) Couldn't get everyone in on it
2) You wouldn't reduce consumption, if you needed gas you'd get it the day before or after leaving a net usage of the same amount of gas.
